New GamingLooksGood video!
#23: Tom Clancy's The Division

Shareef hops back on the 161 from Paterson, NJ to NYC to check out Tom Clancy's latest military shooter. He discusses default whiteness in character creators, a good way to handle homosexuality in games, and how Larae Barrett represents a POC role that is sorely needed in more video games.

I've released a new video in my GamingLooksGood series on video game diversity. In Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U, I search for the small fro hairstyle, roll hard with an awesome woman of color at my side, and get my dance on (seriously).

Please share. Keep a predator off of the streets.

Hey people. I need some help spreading the word.

This morning my sister revealed that she was sexually assaulted by a minister in our church when she was a minor, confirming suspicions I've had about this man for over a decade. Within hours, 4 other women came to her and revealed that they were also assaulted. His daughter has come forward and revealed that she's not surprised by this and has a strained relationship with him. I'm trying to spread the word all over social media that this man is a dirtbag and can't hide behind the guise of being a "man of God" any longer.

In case any of you know folks from Indiana and wanna warn them to stay away.

For anyone who may also want to come forward or may want to speak with someone you can reach your local RAINN affiliate at any time, 24/7, by calling the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800.656.HOPE (4673).

Please share this on all platforms.

New Video! #GamingLooksGood #18: Black Ops III Campaign Fail

You can play as a woman, but you can only be white. Not only that, the main authority figures are also white. The support characters are well balanced diversity-wise, but they don't call the shots. This is unacceptable, especially since the multiplayer game has many diverse character models. One step forward and 500 steps back.

Huge news - my hip hop and coding piece (http://boingboing.net/2015/06/09/how-hip-hop-can-teach-you-to-c.html) is being featured in a collection of gaming's best stories of 2015. It's a nice hardcover book and is being funded via Kickstarter - please donate and share if you can!

New Blog Post #ScienceLooksGood

Virtual Blackness at #CES2016
There were two themes that unexpectedly intertwined for me during the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas: Virtual reality (VR) and the representation of Blackness at the annual trade show. VR uses a headset that enables you to experience a simulated world in all three dimensions: you can look behind, in front, above, and below you. I look like an absolute dork with the headset on, but the experience is worth it. Believ...

Tomorrow is when our weekend fundraiser starts for Children's Hospital in Wisconsin. Your donations really make a difference, especially for parents that can't afford treatment for their kids. https://t.co/MPaOk02wY8

I think a lot about kids that have less than I do. There's few things more heartbreaking to me.

I believe strongly in service. When I was younger, people saw something in me, a kid in the hood, and helped me get where I am today. I've always lived my life trying to do the service that people did for me. Sometimes all you need as a kid is an adult that has your back

I've been lucky to avoid a lot of hospital time but many kids aren't. We're raising money to help make their journey a little easier. Also, there will be prizes, good (and silly) games, and I'll be wearing awesome clothing.

Please share and/or donate.

Very good, predictable Mexican food. Get a steak burrito and a BlackBerry Izze - perfect comfort food when going through tough times.

Very meager cheesesteaks ... plenty of better options on the city. Go to Jim's if you're on South St.

My favorite thing about this library is the impressive amount of authors and speakers. It really serves the community well.
