Travel writer and speaker on the road since 2008
I am something of rarity—a Florida native born and raised in St. Petersburg. From sleepy suburbia, I left in 2008 on what I thought would be a solo, year-long trip around the world. That initial trip, however, turned into an open-ended journey and I slowed down to travel and volunteer in small communities along the way. My travel site, A Little Adrift, shares more on that story.
In October 2012, I published my first book, the Volunteer Traveler’s Handbook and followed that up with the official launch of my passion project, Grassroots Volunteering, which is a community-sourced database of global social enterprises.
Currently, I split my time and spend several months each year in the United States speaking to high school and University students about traveling young and becoming global citizens.
