Don't be alarmed if you see your plants wilt. My plants have been getting a lot of harsh sunlight these 2 months, and most of the time the soil dries out pretty quickly causing the choysum to wilt. Just give it plenty of water love and it will spring back up. This timelapse is taken over 30mins. Amazing, isn't it?

The Korean shop I go to don't sell my favourite tteok anymore :( so i bought this rice cake instead. It's gooey and moist, more like mochi texture, i think it is glutinous rice flour, not rice flour. Anyone knows?

Sigh I miss tteok

After 4 weeks, Choy sum is ready for harvesting. Thinking of making kimchi with these.

Back from Hibernation – My Personal Update

I'm back from blogging hiatus of 3.5months. I wrote this post on my blog today.

This is the longest I’ve stayed away from blogging. I owe, you my readers an update of what’s been happening. I’m thankful for those of you who are concern about my silence. I do not usually write about my personal life on this food blog but it’s time I ask for support and share my story. Maybe my story might share some light with others that they are not alone in their journey, whatever it may be.

As my work is mostly online and being self employed, there are practically no official working hours sometimes I am toiling away till wee hours, updating social media or answering comments. When my head is down and working on a project, that becomes my focus. Self Care is something that I have to really work on to achieve most times. I have difficulty taking time out for myself. These 3.5 months have been time for self care.

You might have come across personal sites/blogs/stories of how someone recovers when they change their diet to eating healthier or plant based / raw / paleo diet.. When I first discovered those stories, I would read with awe and hope. Filled with hope that I could soon recover too.

My journey didn’t turn out that way. It has been quite a roller coaster journey since my health plummeted in 2010 after a few stressful years of running a small event management setup with a partner, coupled with bad eating habits since college and lastly poor genetic make-up. Mentally and physically, I was totally burnt out at the age of 33. My body’s battery was low, I had extreme fatigue that needed 12-14 hours of sleep that left me not able to work full time.

The initial protocol from my naturopath of treating my candida infection, adrenal fatigue and leaky gut helped improve my fatigue after 2 years of treatment. I was very diligent with following my naturopath’s treatment and trying new things that I read about – with detox, supplements, food, raw food and finding out about my intolerance with wheat, dairy and pork. Even after eliminating these 3 food ranges, I still have occasional fatigue, absentmindedness, and it takes twice as long to complete a certain task compared to before my health condition changed.

Good choice.  :-)  Greens like cool roots.  They're one of the few crops that will thrive in shade/partial shade.  In high summer, I plant my garden greens under the trellises of other plants.

My 'young chefs' at @alamkreatif found a local yellowfin tuna during our visit to TTDI Market. Part of their exploration is to buy ingredients for their cooking class.

It's also the first time their teacher (me) seeing tuna fish at the market.. hehe

Here's a self watering "pot" you can immediately start at home. Cut a plastic bottle into half, make a hole in the cap and fit the cloth through the hole. Turn the top half to upside down and slot into the bottom half filled with water, make sure the cloth touches the water. Fill it with soil and you can start growing!

This is one of the #upcycle project taught by my colleague at Alam Kreatif. I teach the Young Chef program for kids age 10-12. Alam Kreatif is a non-profit center offers balanced kids education through arts. More details about Alam Kreatif http://www.pkktuankubainun.com/#!alam-kreatif/c6gz.

I lived in Australia for 2 years but never realised how big it is. This graphic puts things into perspective

Thanks for sharing +CONJURUPFOOD Annajane

This is why we talk of Australia as a big country my overseas friends! I find it a fascinating graphic. It's a land where we would drive 8 hours for a party!

Yes, but we have traffic, sometimes we can drive for 4 hours and not even be out of the city. :D
