Dear Jesus Saves:

Thanks for writing! So sorry to hear that you had a different experience than most when you made this recipe.  I have been making this for more than a year without any problems, so I am wondering what happened.  A few questions for you:

Did you use a scale to measure out the ingredients? It is so important to make sure you use grams (NOT teaspoons, tablespoons or ounces).  For example, if you were to guess on the clay and used over 5 grams, it may turn clumpy and not mix very easily.

Did you make sure the mixture heated to at least 120 degrees?

If you followed the recipe exactly as written, I don't know what happened.  I have experienced similar events when I try to follow a recipe from a magazine and even though I do exactly what the recipes says, it sometime just does not work.  Perhaps you can save it by adding in some water and reheating it.

Good luck!!

Cheers!
Shannon

Yes, I used a scale & measured in grams.  I forgot to say that I used mango butter instead of shea ( I hate shea butter). I wouldn't think that would cause any problems though.
Must one use almond oil? I don't have any more, but I do have olive and fractionated coconut oil.
After heating the honey to 120, there wouldn't be any medicinal benefits left in it.
I think I'll try it again. It really sounds nice & I'd love to be able to use it.

I would use the new radish root ferment that recently came on the market as a natural preservative. Thanks for stopping by Fresh-Picked Beauty.

If you were to use a preservative, do you have a preference? I hate trying to figure out which one is "least" likely to cause cancer, but having to whip up new batches every 2 weeks (this or other products) doesn't always fit into my busy life! Also, approximately what size jar does this wind up fitting in? I'm guessing just under 4 oz?

My son has been in this excellent Karate School for going on three years now!!! My entire family just adores the awesome instructor. My son has learned so much and has had a blast doing so. I am very happy that we enrolled my son in this Karate school because Master K not only teaches karate he teaches valuable life skills and awards badges to the kids who prove themselves and demonstrate hard work at school and home.
