I spy with my small beady eyes...

...a post on The 3 Phases Of Social Media Strategy. Although this was posted two years ago, the major lesson is pretty much the same..."If you focus on the creation of value, you’ll reap true rewards."

"Focus on the creation of value" is the driving force behind my technology workshop this Saturday for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Westchester Alumnae Chapter. Many of my sorority sisters have a Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter account, but they honestly have no idea what to do with these accounts. They merely signed-up because of social peer pressure ("GASP! You don't have a twitter?! What rock do you live under??"). And because they have no real reason to maintain the profile, the profile is left idle. They are just social stalkers who make no contributions to the conversation.

I believe if I can help my sorority sisters discover what content they want to share then their social media presence would make more sense to them (and to anyone else interested in following them). So instead of bouncing around like a mindless zombie ("Oooo let me tweet about ordering a venti Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks. People want to know that, right?"), they will have a voice and thus actual messages with meaningful content to convey.

Do not get me wrong. It's fun to maintain a personal page on Facebook simply to reconnect with long-lost friends. But, it is more beneficial and a more productive use of time, to actually connect with people, to TALK WITH people and not AT people, to create value within an online community.

A Pinterest copy-cat? Like Pinterest, Luvocracy encourages users to pin images/sites of products to a board. The creators of Luvocracy boast they take Pinterest a step further, because the pins should lead to the site where users can ACTUALLY purchase the pinned product. The inspiration is that people are more inclined to buy products recommended by others.

Not sure what the appeal is behind this concept. Luvocracy sounds like a mashup between Pinterest and wish lists found on every other ecommerce site. Then again, maybe they're on to something...

Headphones that can scan your brain to find songs that match your mood. Say whaaaat?

Neurowear debuted the Micro headphones prototype at SXSW. How does it work? In laymen's terms:
First you would need the headphones and you would need to download the Micro app. Then, you plug the headphones into your smart device and run the app. The headphones will then use the EEG sensor to scan your brain patterns to match your mood with appropriate songs. Ta-da!

But, what if you are having an anxiety attack and all you want is calming music to relax you?! Well those headphones would certainly not be the answer!

Ah well...the headphones are not on the market and who knows if it ever will be. Only time will tell.
