It's been a while since i posted anything here, but here's a little bit of news about what's happening in my life these days. Some good, some bad, but trying to focus on the future.
Shane Rhyne became a stand-up comedian over the course of the last year. His Twitter profile explains his career move: “Former marketing genius. When given a tabula rasa by life, I scribbled jokes all over it.”

Shane its such a good thing that you have picked yourself up and created a further you. I always thought your wit was quick, sharp
and underused. Life does go on and we can do things to heal. One could be for you to cut her loose. My very best to you for always.

Comedian Dustin Meadows produced this podcast last weekend in Knoxville as a part of the Scruffy City Comedy Festival. In addition to the scheduled comedians on the panel (Knoxville's Matt Chadourne, Tyler Sonnichsen and Eliot Rahal, Johnson City's Hunter Roberts, and Atlanta's John Michael Bond), I even got to make a guest cameo appearance from the studio audience as the resident expert on the Smokey and the Bandit film franchise. Tune in and listen!

My online snarkiness was included in this article by Boston.com. I'm a proud smart ass today.
CNN’s obsessive coverage of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has attracted some backlash.

Hi Shane,

I saw from twitter you enjoyed the Daily show segment about Stan Brock.
Check out our feature documentary on Stan, our fundraising site went live yesterday and it would be great if you could support and spread the word.

I haven't had this much sleep deprived fun since college. Or that Clockwork Orange experiment.

So perfectly described...
I write and re-write and erase the title a few times before I start. There are twenty to thirty comedians waiting for an open mic to start.  Stand-up comedy is primarily waiting.  (For a while anyway.) Waiting f...

30 years ago, I had the honor of visiting Normandy American Cemetery a few weeks after the 40th anniversary of D-Day. Today, I posted a remembrance of how both those days in 1984 and 1944 affected my outlook on life. #dday70
In June 1984, some of my classmates and I had the privilege of visiting Normandy American Cemetery in France. This is my remembrance of that day.

Great interview with my friend Jeff Blank. Interestingly, Kirk Noland (the comic behind the camera) and I had a similar conversation a few days ago asking the theme of "you don't choose your style of comedy, it chooses you."

When I first started following Knox Comedy as an audience member, before I ever to to the stage on my own, Jeff was one of the first comics who made me a fan. He never fails to make me laugh.

My life has taken some interesting and unexpected turns this year. After performing stand-up comedy last week in a vacant lot for random passers-by, today I am trying my hand as a game show host during a live broadcast on local television.

This chapter of my eventual memoir promises to be colorful.

Story
Tagline
Comedian. Writer. Data miner. Font of useless knowledge. Reinventing my life to pursue my dreams.
Introduction
Shane Rhyne was born with a natural gift for talking about himself in third person. He also has the ability to recite the alphabet backwards as fast (or faster) than you can forwards. To date, Shane Rhyne has not found an appropriate way to monetize these and many other obscure skills he has mastered.

Shane Rhyne is currently exploring an unorthodox career path, leaving behind a career in corporate marketing and non-profit management to listen to the voice inside him that seeks a life of creativity and the arts. So, Shane Rhyne has decided to become a writer and a comedian. In short, he has gone on a hunger strike.

With skills acquired in his previous careers, including marketing, public relations, digital strategies, community management, nonprofit management, hotel management, tourism management, on air radio hosting and news reporting, magazine editor, newspaper boy, McDonald's fry cook, bookstore clerk, and night watchman, he hopes to finally get started answering the question, "What do I want to be when I grow up?"

Let's see what happens.

I love the menu choices here. The braised rib and grilled cheese sandwich is a favorite, as well as the shrimp and grits. Conveniently located on Market Square with patio dining.

Great place to hang out with downtown regulars. Be warned, it can get quite crowded before a concert at the nearby Tennessee Theatre.
