Great speech by #Asimov. I wish our leaders would apply the wisdom from our great thinkers more often. Perhaps many of our problems could be avoided.

This is an interesting article. There are some good points to consider, and as a user & gamer, I agree that the freemium model can often feel exploitive. But aren't the customers also to blame for the state of things?

We have a generation of people who expect content to be free. Many people feel that being charged even 99 cents for a high quality app or mobile game is too much. That's cheaper than the price of Snickers bar for an experience that can give one several hours of enjoyment.

Perhaps the developers created this expectation with a race to the bottom in the app ecosystem by trying to undercut each other to compete for eyeballs in a crowded marketplace. But apps require capital to be created. Developers cannot subsist off air, try as they might. So, they need to be compensated for the products they create.

And let's not forget, its not exactly easy to acquire new users in the mobile app space without a huge marketing budget unless you stumble upon some viral success.

So if customers are no longer willing to pay a fair price for a mobile game or app, what is an app developer to do? It is a very unfortunate problem, but many developers MUST turn to a freemium model, not because they are greedy, but because they need to EAT.

I think the market, as your article alludes to, may eventually correct itself as users because jaded with the freemium model and once again return to paying a fair market value for a high quality app or mobile game. At least here's hoping!

(As a side note, I find it interesting that this website decries the freemium model, while seemingly employing a version of it itself. It gives away free content to "hook" users, but charges for additional "premium" content that elaborates on the topics discussed in the free articles.)
What if I gave you a choice between doing the right thing, and doing the wrong thing. Which one would you choose?

How one woman's blood donation helped save her life #blooddonation
A blood donation is one of the greatest gifts that a person can give. It is a selfless act that can have a long-lasting impact on another person's life. Susan, a committed Red Cross blood donor, regularly donated blood to help save the lives of others. Following one of her routine blood donation ...

It seems like the #Google #PandaUpdate 4.0 gives a major boost to big directories (or really hammers over-optimized business websites in some verticals) for many local business search terms. 6 directories show up at the top of results for "dentist dc".

I haven't paid attention to these kinds of results in a while, so it may have already been like this. But it wasn't the case a year ago, I know that.

#2048 is ranking highly for the keyword "bird" even though it has nothing to do with birds. Shows weakness in the #iOS  app store algorithm...

I presume the app has "bird" in its keywords field and now ranks for this term due to the immense popularity, rating and engagement of the app.

Noticed that #2048 is ranking 5th in the #iOS  App Store for the keyword "bird". Any ideas why?

The vibe, the food, the service all top notch. I order the saganaki (flaming cheese) every time and I still stand in awe how no one has caught themselves on fire yet. Truly talented people!
