It is nice to be home and be able to look up in the sky and see this. It was such a clear night that it was a shame to be in the city. There would have been too many stars to find what I was looking for if I was any further away from town.

Nice sunny day out at It's Beach, Santa Cruz. The water was warm enough to be in the water for a few hours in shorts. This is unusual for Northern California where I am used to wearing a 3:2 steamer all year round.

It is always nice when you wake up to fresh snow at lake level when you are about to hit the slopes.

Seems that people back home are not happy. This has not been something I have seen or heard about other than stumbling across it on the internet. After asking some people about it back home, there was not much in the press there either. Living overseas makes it very easy to lose touch with what is happening but this is motivation to try and spend more time actively seeking out the news. If protests like this are not making the Australian news though, I am not sure what chance I have of finding out with the US news.

After close to 4 years in the USA, I finally "threw a shrimp on the barbie"! These went down a treat and everyone seemed to enjoy them. thanks to +Jonathon Hunt for the idea. There was also a suggestion of drinking a Fosters while cooking it, but I was not willing to subject myself to that.

Wishing other companies would follow this example and join the Open Patent Non-Assertion Pledge.  We've put 79 key cloud and big data patents into it.  Lets innovate, not litigate.

Yet another crazy experiment coming out of Google. If we can pull this off, it really could start making the worlds information available to everyone. I am lucky enough to sit around the corner from some of the guys on the team and it sounds like they are doing some really interesting things. I am looking forward to seeing where they go with this!
