As the negotiations on the Trans Pacific Partnership continue in Hawaii, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has published a guest post I wrote on the implications of copyright term extension for Canada. The EFF has also launched a campaign urging Canadians to speak out on the issue. With Prime Minister Harper stating today that Canada "cannot be left out" of the TPP, it seems increasingly likely that the government will cave on copyright term ext...

words & photo by Brian Thompson. What’s the truth? What’s true for me, isn’t true for you. You have your version, I have mine. We often get in disagreements or fights because we think someone is telling a lie, exaggerating, or fabricating the truth. But what we don’t realize is that most of the time the other person isn't telling a lie at all, they’re speaking the truth — their truth. They’re speaking the truth, as they see it fr...

Some sad news for those of us who once loved #grooveshark  - a music streaming service. I hope his death is not directly related to the close of that service. So much potential to make something great...
Grooveshark co-founder Josh Greenberg, a pioneer in Gainesville's student startup movement, was found dead in his bed Sunday evening by his girlfriend in the house they shared. He was 28.

I have heard this song a gazillion times (yes, that is a number, really, it is, true story) but I have never heard it "live". I stumbled across this and it is incredible. Love hearing it acoustic rather than with the "metal" from the 80s.

Agreed. I suppose back in the day I thought of it as a metal song and that never really changed in my head. I listened to it again just now and it is most certainly not metal genre at all. Wonder why I thought that... probably an association with movies of that era featuring pop-metal-synth. I wasn't terribly educated in music back than and am only mediocre in my music education an adult. I suppose I fall into music appreciator.

We all know this information (as knowledge is rarely the problem) but it is worth sharing again.

From time to time we feel dissatisfied with the world and our place in it. We don't like what is happening in the universe. We don't think we matter within the confines of our galaxy. We feel our voice isn't heard on our own planet.

But how do we stop feeling this way? We are told time and again that it is simple: do what you love and stop caring about money. If we can do that, the Vulcans will land and start us on our spacefaring ways. (We can dream, right?)

The thing is... it appears a lot of people think this is a new idea. It isn't. We care too much about the crap we should ignore. Sadly, it has become cliché to even say it aloud and even worse to sharing this stuff on any social network.

Yet, I think it is worth a share even if it still feels somewhat hopeless when, really, it shouldn't.

This is my go to bookstore for everything from literature to graphic novels. But those things are just books. The greatest thing about Pulp Fiction books is the people who work there. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and are happy to help when I need it. Don't judge this bookstore by its cover. This is the Cheers of bookstores. I wish there were more like it.
