My boyfriend and I found shady oaks on groupon. We're looking for just a couple of days to get away together.  We looked at a couple of places but shady oaks looked the most promising. After a long day of driving we get to shady oaks. We got to shady oaks and we arrived with a note telling us our room is all ready. We get to our room and wow I was amazed. The room was exactly like in the pictures. We got the rose room which from the reviews said was the best room with view. And they were right! One window you get a view of the vineyard and the other you a view of the patio and more of the vineyard. You can see all colors of the leaves and acres of vineyard. They have great restaurants all around the b&b. Your about 20 - 30 minutes from downtown Napa and 10 minutes from st.helena. So it's right in the middle of everything. And every night we had a wine tasting with 1 red and 1 white wine and cheese and crackers. The staff was so sweet really told us about the area and she recommended restaurants and great places to see. We champagne breakfast every morning. The first morning we had waffles and apple cinnamon with walnuts! Mouth watering! The second morning we had eggs Benedict with a 3 berry cranberry sauce! Both ladies can do some serious cooking! All in all this is best bed and breakfast I've been to! And for my first time in Napa i definitely enjoyed my stay! I would recommend this place to anyone!!

The Tangled Vines of Shady Oaks
Shady Oaks Country Inn, St. Helena, California
If you’ve ever stayed in a bed and breakfast, you know what a unique and charming experience it is with quaint, serene settings with comfortably furnished rooms, gardens, and of course, a delightful wine country breakfast served each morning. Innkeepers are happy to recommend nearby wineries for tasting, tell you where the best wine country dining is, and a host of other activities in the area. Clearly, innkeepers love what they do. But ever wonder what innkeepers did before they were B&B owners or even what they do in their spare time?
Meet John and Lisa Runnels, the owners of this Bd and Breakfast – Shady Oaks Country Inn in St. Helena. Lisa is a charming, exuberant lady full of life and able to give you the best local insider information on wine country. But what may surprise you to know is that her husband John (along with his partner John Lansingh) is behind the award-winning wine “Tangled Vines”. Their homemade Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah and Pinot Noir have won several awards in the Napa Valley Home Winemakers Classic held each July at St. Supery Winery, a competition for home winemakers.
The partnership and enterprise began over 20 years ago and the moniker “Tangled Vines” is the amusing result of the tangled or gnarly relationship of the duo. According to John Runnels, “John (Lansingh) does things the old-fashioned way and he’s a little hard-headed and I do things the modern way and I’m a little hard-headed, so we tangled a lot. So we said, ‘let’s call it Tangled Vines.’ ’” John and Lisa both enjoy sharing their love of wine and the story with guests of Shady Oaks Country Inn. To John Runnels, “it’s the only thing I can do creative. I’m not a painter or an artist, but I can create wine in my style.”
So next time you think about visiting Napa Valley for a mid-week vacation (See Special Offer) or weekend respite, be sure to check into Shady Oaks Country Inn where you might get the chance to taste John’s creativity and perhaps meet the master mind himself! Either way, be prepared to thoroughly enjoy what John and Lisa have created together with their beloved bed and breakfast. CLICK HERE for reservations.
New tasting room in St. Helena
Tamber Bey just opened a new tasting room in St. Helena. WOW what great wines at a great price. The tasting room is two miles from Shady Oaks Country Inn in downtown St. Helena, Napa Valley. Only 1 block from Ambrose Bierce House our sister Inn in downtown St. Helena. Of all the great Wineries in Napa Valley this is one of the better ones. http://www.tamberbey.com/Visit-Us
Market continues to be great
I am sure some of you know Market restaurant. Well it just keeps getting better. We had all 5 rooms go the other night and everyone raved about it.

Hope is the best
We hired a part time innkeeper named Hope to give us a couple of days off a week. She is wonderfull. Like having a second Mother. Clean, clean, clean and she got the breakfast sooo fast. All of our guests are going to love her.
All new paint
Shady Oaks just completed a complete paint job. WOW Lisa loves it, everything so fresh and new. Of course that means all new bed linens also.

We have stayed twice at a fabulous bed-and-breakfast, the Shady Oaks Country Inn in St. Helena. We first came five years ago, after speaking with Lisa Runnells, one of the owners. It was perfect for our special occasion, and we raved about it so much that on our recent trip, we had five couples.
To our surprise, we found nothing had changed in five years. Even the rates ($189-$289 per room, all with private bath) were the same. The inn is in a small vineyard and has a great, quiet ambience. Breakfast, including eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles or stuffed French toast, is served on a grand patio, weather permitting. We felt completely at home in the cozy but spacious rooms.
Wine is served with cheese and crackers every evening, and our hosts set up two private tastings with top wineries. They will also recommend wineries and restaurants, make reservations and book limo service.

The Winery Retreat
Has its own private entrance … Inside and out the fabulous stone walls breathe history, as this room was an actual winery from 1883 – 1887! Many have said that staying here is like “being tucked away in the south of France”. This elegant and secluded retreat offers a breathtaking king size brass and ivory bed, and beautiful tapestry and oak love seat. The mirrored triple door armoire is stunning. Your enchanting fireplace that can be enjoyed anywhere in the room, invites you to linger. The finishing touch is your luxurious private bathroom complete with a tub and shower combination.
