Question on video sitemaps. All the videos on the site are youtube embeds. Can you still submit sitemaps for these? Do you need access to the raw video files?

yes well the only way to ensure your embed gets in the results is to use the iframe code. Otherwise IME, it's a crapshoot at best. Adding value to the original video helps as well....likely more than the sitemap ;-)

The Dubai International Film Festival is hosted by Madinat Jumeirah for the 10th year! Here are some neat facts about the hotel.

Analytics & Measurement  -

Apologies in advance as this question isn't entirely Tech SEO. But since it's that time of the year where most of us are tasked with forecasting organic search traffic for the coming year, I was wondering how you folk go about measuring this now (especially with no KW data). Also some of my clients want to 'see' how traffic would behave if no SEO activity is carried out in the coming year.  What assumptions do you make? Would be extremely grateful if you guys could talk me through your methodology or thought process. Cheers in advance!

+Shaad Hamid I would put it in terms of traffic price from the keywords you are targeting.  You can go back several years and itemize the KWs that have driven conversions and back into $$ by rank tracking for those kws and the assigning a CPC value based on position (there is CTR % based on position).  That can give you a Traffic Price (similar to SEM Rush: http://screencast.com/t/5qatp46msWsJ)

For the with / without seo question, this is a non-starter.  There is no way to gauge this because there is no way to tell what will happen in the next year.  This has more to do with risk to me than comparison.  If I have cancer and I go to my family doctor vs. a specialist, how can I quantify whether I will live or not.  I feel less risk in selecting the specialist since I do not speak that language.

This is a teachable moment for your client.

A search listing's showing a random text snippet not found on the meta description, copy of the page, anywhere on the homepage or ODP. Am I being thick or have I missed any other source Google could be pulling this random meta descriptions from?

Hey chaps! Sorry, found the mystery snippet. It was actually on DMOZ under an entirely different name.

Does including a 'no-cache' directive on a website hinder the site's ability to rank? Secondly, why should/shouldn't a website set up a 'no-cache' directive?

In the case of Google caching information, supplying Cache-Control: nocache or Pragma: no-cache HTTP response headers or the latter in a HTML tag won't affect Google caching information, while they cache content obviously - they aren't a proxy cache in a traditional sense.

If you wanted to make sure Google didn't cache content from a page but still keep it indexed and available in the search results, you'd supply a meta robots nosnippet and/or noarchive tags to stop them showing the snippet in the search results or providing a cached version of the page via an advanced cache: query operator.

Can anyone recommend for me a tool or software they use to create video sitemaps? Ideally it shouldn't be a plugin or a script that requires backend installation.

Does anyone know how to remove date-stamps from SERPs? Google seems to be pulling in the date on the 'latest news' column on the homepage (and other pages) and is displaying it as the date of the page on the SERPs. Since new press releases won't be published regularly, there is a possibility that the date-stamp on the SERPs could affect CTRs. Also it isn't possible to remove the date element from the code so will require a work-around. Any help will be much appreciated!

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for all your responses. +Nicolai Lønne I'll definitely be looking into your solution of removing date stamps after 30 days, that's a great solution. Currently though, the client has agreed to the JS wrapping, if it doesn't work, we'll remove the date stamp entirely from the template.

It's been an absolute pleasure to work with Jon! His relaxed and friendly personality was such a breath of fresh air, especially when it can be really stressful on the day. I can't rate Jon highly enough and I have no qualms in recommending him to anyone who is looking for a wedding photographer.
