If you were considering moving your summer lawn and garden equipment to electric, today's Goldbox means it is a good day to do that.

These are the really powerful "Pro" 80V models that are comparable to gas but lighter, less stinky, less poisonous, cheaper to maintain, have almost no vibration, don't require mixing oil and gas, all use the same batteries, no fire risk, easy to start …oh and you aren’t being a douchebag to the environment.

Me too. I like to talk to technology!

I'm at CES for the week and have a some spare time if there's anyone in the Android/Android Wear/Glass community that has a new app that they'd like to pitch to me for coverage on +9to5Google. Shoot me a Hangout or comment on this post.

MY first car review/test drive: The 2017 Chevy Bolt
http://electrek.co/2016/01/06/chevy-bolt-test-drive/
I have two electric cars at home – a plug-in Prius and a base model 2013 Tesla Model S. Yesterday, I drove the car that felt like their natural offspring: the compact crossover Chevy Bolt...

For $30,000 it better have a 400 mile range. It also better come with a portable solar charging station that can charge it in under 5 minutes.

Most people when they hear electric cars thing economic. They never think about the efficiency of the plant it comes from and all the step up and step down transformers between that plant and their car. That lack of efficiency is part of it.

They also don't consider how when you put more of these cars on the grid it increase the current load on the grip which increase heat of the cables which increases resistance and cause even more power loss due to heat.

So until the US rebuilds the vast majority of the electrical infra structure these cars have about the same or worse efficiency than any petrol car.

Even if I bought a $2000 junker that got 15 miles a gallon at the 1.65 a gallon I could drive 254,000+ miles on the remaining 28,000 dollars. That is about 20 years driving for me.

There are also 7 or so brand new cars under 15,000 that get even better gas millage such as the chev spark LS which gets 31 city 39 hwy cost $12,995.

For that list.
http://www.autotrader.com/best-cars/the-7-cheapest-new-cars-in-the-united-states-224878

So what it boils down to are you getting your moneys worth? No, nor are you saving the environment any.

I've worked in power production and with electrical. I was a Naval Nuclear Reactor Operator / Electronics Tech. After which I worked for US wind power for a short time before going to work for DOD/DLA doing electrical. Primary work after which was electrical and equipment engineering and computer science.
