Our very own little calf 'Kamagiri' loves milk so much that as soon as she is content with drinking milk of her own mother, she rushes off to Yamuna and steals her milk.

A noble effort by the government of Himachal Pradesh to provide the stray cows the much needed support, care and shelter by
constituting a 'Gauvansh Samvhardan Board' for their protection. We applaud their vision and mission!

Children are the future citizens of the country. The future of the country depends upon the present children. So the children need to be trained properly in order to protect the country's future.

In Gokulananda Goshala, Belgaum we were gifted a cow by one of our well wishers. She belongs to Red Sindhi breed. Her health is good. We are planning to send her to the needy farmer for her care and maintenance.

My Mother Cow
I study in MNNIT Allahabad as a PhD Scholar, the city known for its sacredness but which has not remained free from the clutches of modernity in both culture and values. Going by the Varna structure which is still very much prevalent in India, I belong to the class of Brahmins. Yes, that means that I’m a vegetarian and if I happened to live some 1000-3000 years ago, I would've been very well kept in high esteem. But ‘now’ is the time of non-vegetarians; some of them who are my own friends.

My hostel room provides me with a balcony view. Yes, lucky me. One day, from this very balcony I noticed a cow; so frail, so old, so lonely…‘Source of income- gone waste’. Every step that she took was deprived off her strength, to stand for her own sake. Her position would remain the same; pain was deeply inflicted upon her if she dared change her position even once. My heart cried at this view. People kept passing by. Some saw, some noticed, some understood but no hand reached out to her with food.

I fed her. She liked bread the most, I knew.

Summer, sometimes, is harsh for some. The temperature had risen up to 47 degree Celsius and she was bleeding. Flies, attracted to the oozed out blood kept hovering over her wounds greedily. Hurriedly, I called volunteers from PETA and also a person from Udaipur who served ill animals. I tried looking out for a shelter home for her but destiny wasn't kind then. Money was never an issue for me as I was studying and earning enough at the same time. But what became too prominent was the lack of humanity that I witnessed around. Everybody listened, they understood, they sympathized but no-one came to help. My only help were the prayers from my heart.

Dettol came to my rescue. I mixed a few drops of Dettol in half mug of water and applied to her wounds. It drove away the flies and the maggots. I fed her then with bread, her favourite food. She got better with time and some care. When everybody kept telling me that she would live no more, I believed in my decision. And, I'm glad that I did.

My hostel mates today, get her the left over’s for food and have become a source of her ‘will to live’ once again. I can sense the love of a mother in her. My mother has been ill since the past twenty years. She’s old, she’s frail, she’s bed-ridden, she has lost the will to live… just like mother cow. Staying away from my mother has been extremely difficult for me and my mother. But when I look beside me, in the eyes of the mother cow, I know for sure that the present moment is beautiful and worth living for. Like a mother she can easily sense my arrival, call it a mother’s instinct or her sixth sense which scientists talk about.
And I know for sure…
…Love of a mother
Care of a friend
As long as she lives
I shall always stay!

Jai Shri Krishna!
