Get star-struck this week right here in San Francisco!

Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, and Michael Fassbender Are All in SF: There have been large lights and other signs of filming outside of Davies Symphony Hall on Van Ness for a few days now and Lauren Machado from the city's Film Commission confirmed to Hoodline that they are there for the Steve Jobs biopic. You may have heard about the Aaron Sorkin penned movie through its casting call earlier this year. It will star Michael Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniack, and Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman. Machado also confirmed to us that all three of these actors are in town for filming. I think they're shooting the Steve Jobs movie at the SF Opera House -- I see a NeXT poster inside the door. pic.twitter.com/5PxXvD6Pv7— Andy Reitz (@areitz) February 24, 2015 The movie's filming will continue in SF until April and should make itself known considering the actors will all be dressed and styled to look '80s appropriate. When I asked Machado what the big honking lights outside the Opera House are for, she explained that those are to amplify the “sunlight” shining into the building for the interior shots. She also said that they’re not currently filming exterior scenes of the building, but they will be at a later date. In other words, keep an eye out for faces you recognize in the next month or so.  [H/t: Hoodline, Photo: Jon Snyder/Wired.com] http://dlvr.it/8lfvBf

Only 10 miles away? We won't keep this amazing to ourselves!

Montara is located 10 miles South of San Francisco on the Pacific Ocean.  The views from some of the houses along Vallemar St. are spectacular.  Go a mile past the center of Montara ( almost to Moss Beach) and look for Vallemar on the right.

We stayed there in mid-November and appreciated the friendly and helpful staff. Arriving late due to a delayed flight, I remarked that this is not how we intended to spend our anniversary. The front desk manager sent up a lovely bottle of wine! The rooms are clean and comfortable though at times they show their age. The view and the bathrobes are great. Delicious coffee served in the morning, and strollers were available for us to borrow. We didn't realize that Tenderloin is not a desirable neighborhood, but we didn't have any trouble at all.

I just cancelled a reservation for Sunday 12/21 because, the day after I made my booking, I discovered there would be a $22 resort fee (payable upon check-in) on top of the rate/tax/charges I had reserved at. That left a bad taste in my mouth.
Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Andy Altman-Ohr, Serrano Hotel would have loved to welcome you to our hotel and are sorry we couldn’t offer you an enjoyable stay. We are listening to your feedback about the Urban Fee. In our experience, guests appreciate one price for all that the fee includes, instead of separate charges for each item. For your future reference this fee includes; morning coffee and tea, all day flavored water in reception, morning newspaper, town car service Mon thru Fri mornings to the financial district, unlimited local calls and faxes, boarding pass printing, use of our bicycles, and free Wi-Fi. In the future if you are looking for luxury and location, Serrano Hotel would be glad to have you as our guest!

Serrano is a cute little boutique hotel located in the Tenderloin area within walking distance to Union Square. I scored a pretty good deal for 3 nights on Hotwire then find out valet parking is $52/night! I ended up parking at the lot across the street. I believe it's $39 with in and out privileges. Check-in & out was a breeze! I got upgraded from a queen bed on the 6th floor to a king bed on the 17th floor at no additional charge. Be sure to ask during check-in for availability. I love the complimentary wine hour located in the lobby. From 5pm- 6pm you get unlimited pours of Prosecco and Cab. They also have complimentary coffee & juice from 7am- 10am. Free wifi if you sign up for their loyalty program. To be honest, I enjoyed my stay and the hotel services were great, however, my room was tiny! It was literally almost too small for 1 person. I'd upgrade to a suite if I stay here again. I also think they should consider doing some renovation. The bathroom is a bit dingy and some areas of the room seems a bit outdated.

The hotel was pretty nice, but the room they put me in was the smallest room I've ever stayed in. It was a 10ft x 10ft room with a queen-size bed, a small desk and a giant dresser, so there was barely any room to move around in there. The toilet was stuffed into the corner so sitting on it is nearly impossible. My room didn't have a safe, a refrigerator, a coffee maker or an iron - all of which have been in nearly every hotel I've stayed at. The hotel doesn't have a pool and you can only get ice on floors 3, 6 and 9. This is what you get for $300/night.

Please do not stay in this hotel. Absolutely the worst valet service I've ever experienced. Instruction on the valet ticket reads "Text 415-xxx-xxxx with your ticket number and hotel name. Your car will be ready in 15 minutes." So I did just that. Got a text response right away that read "Your car is being retrieved. It will be ready to pick up in 15 min." After 40 min, nothing. We were standing outside the hotel waiting for our car and we had an appointment to catch, so time is of the essence. The head of the valet service saw us looking stressed but he did NOT once ask us "do you need help?" or "what's your ticket number?" He was standing there looking bored. We asked him the update on our car, he said "Please be a little patient." Really?! After you saw us waiting for almost 1 hour for our car, you are telling us to be patient? We went inside the lobby to get the manager, he made a phone call and said, "Your car will be ready in a minute." After 5 minutes, our car came from a garage just right next to the hotel. It seemed they did not even get our car on our first request. Very unprofessional and rude valet guy with greasy hair swooped back - if you see this guy, just look for the manager because he is of no help.

Sketchy area, charged for WiFi and amenities whether one wants it or not which they didn't even tell us about until checking out... I'd recommend going to Pickwick hotel instead with better rooms, free WiFi and a better location, all for the same price.
Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Hello Sam Hirbod, We're very sorry to hear you're unhappy with your visit. In our experience, guests appreciate one price for all that the fee includes, instead of separate charges for each item. Booking travel can often be a complicated endeavor as you try to compare and price a variety of hotels. Our travel partners that provide your booking experience are not always successful at delivering the information you need to fully evaluate your stay choice. It seems in this case you did not see details of the Urban Fee and we will address that with our partner. We hope to welcome you back again in the future; we're confident we can win you over!

Historic and era-true decor with all the modern amenities just a short walk from the Moscone Center for con-goers (me) and the price was right. Staff were all friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to assist with anything we needed. Free Seattle's Best coffee every morning? Yes please! Would definitely stay again and besides, free internet downtown isn't a typical perk these days
