HOW TO GET PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN AUSTRALIA ON AN EMPLOYER SPONSORED WORKING VISA

There are a number of ways visa applicants can be sponsored by their employer and receive permanent residence in Australia. This means the employer endorses the visa application, allowing the visa holder to work and live in Australia long term.

The two main employer-sponsored visa schemes that lead to permanent residence are:
1. Regional sponsored migration scheme
2. Employer nomination scheme

The two schemes are very similar but the requirements for the regional sponsored migration scheme are generally easier to fulfill. But the regional sponsored migration scheme is only open to employers where the position is located in a regional area.

A regional area means anywhere in Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory and the Australia Capital Territory where Canberra is located. All of the remaining states (Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria) are regional except:
• Greater Brisbane and the Gold Coast in Queensland are not regional
• Sydney, New Castle and Wollongong in New South Wales are not regional
• Melbourne in Victoria is not regional

The employer nomination scheme is open to employers to sponsor their employees in any location in Australia, including all inner-city, urban areas in Australia.
