Interesting to see some improvements around healthcare. Telstra has just launched it's video conferencing service to provide rural/remote patients access to doctors 24/7 - AKA: Telemedicine

Dell recently announced that SonicWall beats Cisco ASA in price by a long shot. My biggest surprise was what SonicWall as a product is still around. It's just one of those products I rarely hear about these days especially in medium-large environments. If it's a competition around price than Dell should really be focusing on other Next-Gen firewall players such as Fortinet and Palo Alto, both of which are great and have their own unique selling propositions.

Starting to see the limitations of wifi running on 802.11n. It seems like file sizes are getting bigger every day – and everyone expects to store everything in the Cloud or want to stream videos. 802.11ac is the newest wireless standard and it aims to “go further and faster” – about three times faster, in fact.

Just logged on to my PC and Windows asked if I wanted to reserve my free upgrade from 8.1 to 10. Windows 10 is the newest operating system from Microsoft and it hopes to win users back after the whole Windows 8 Start Menu debacle. AMD has let slip that Windows 10 is set to launch at the end of July. All users of Windows 7 and upwards are eligible for a free upgrade. If you’re inclined, the Insider Preview is available for download – but remember, use at your own risk! http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/preview-iso

Getting started with Cloud backup is not difficult. A couple of us did Veeam VMSP and VMTSP training last Wednesday. Learnt a variety of things such as being able to restore data in the right format within 15 minutes. Studies show that downtime costs on average $72k per hour! They also got a new feature called Cloud Connect that allows existing Veeam customers to backup to the Cloud.

Great news for future students studying Electronics in high schools. Engineers have started research on how electronics could be 3D printed with printable conductive electronics.
3D printing can revolutionise the classroom with new possibilities for learning activities. We have many customers within Education that are constantly finding new ways to teach and engage students, which already include virtual reality, Minecraft and video sharing.

Just read an article about how HP plans to release a new type of computer where all the copper wiring on the motherboard will be optical fibre, and RAM/HDDs/SSDs will just be replaced with just one type of memory. Imagine compressing a football field of machines into a couple of fridges… yes, let that sink in… this might be bad news for the careers of some Datacentre Managers out there.
HP, Dell, and IBM’s hardware divisions are all struggling because, let’s face it, servers and PCs are commodity products. This could be the game changer HP needs.
