The annual #Geminid #meteorShower peaks this year on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, December 13 and 14. It is usually one of the best meteor showers of the year. Unfortunately the nearly full moon will block out most of the dimmer meteors this year. But the Geminids are so bright and numerous that you should still be able to catch a few good ones if you are patient. Look to the northeast after midnight. Happy hunting!

The annual #Orionids #meteorShower will peak on Friday Night and Saturday Morning, October 21st and 22nd. The Orionids is an average shower producing up to 20 meteors per hour. The second quarter moon will block some of the fainter meteors this year, but the Orionids tend to be fairly bright so it could still be a good show. Find a dark observing site and look to the east after midnight Happy hunting!

The annual Delta Aquarid #meteorShower peaks this year on Thursday night and Friday morning, July 28 and 29. The second quarter moon will block most of the fainter meteors this year but if you are patient you should still be able to catch quite a few good ones. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Happy hunting!
Delta Aquarid shower officially began mid-July. Nominal peak July 28 or 29. The shower is long and rambling. If you watch the Perseids in August, you'll see Delta Aquarids then, too.

On Sunday morning, May 22, the planet #Mars will reach #opposition. This means it will be on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. This is the best time to see Mars because it will be at its closest approach to Earth and will be extremely bright in the night sky. This will be the planet's closest approach to Earth in 10 1/2 years. Look for a bright orange light almost directly overhead around midnight. It should stay bright for the next few weeks.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Last week, Mercury stole the show. Now it's Mars' turn.

A man in India was killed on Saturday by an object that fell from the sky. Authorities believe that the object may have been a #meteorite. An explosion caused by the object injured several other people. Scientists will examine the object to find out if it was a meteorite. If it was, this will be the first case in recorded history of a person being killed by a meteorite. #killerMeteorite
Indian scientists will examine the remains of an object that fell from the sky, causing a large explosion which killed a man, to determine if it is a meteorite, police say.

The annual Leonid #meteorShower peaks on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, November 17 and 18. The #Leonids produce between 10 and 15 meteors per hour. Many of these can be bright with colorful trails. The crescent moon will set before midnight leaving dark skies for what should be an excellent show. Be sure to find a dark site away from city lights. Happy hunting!

The annual #Draconids #meteorShower peaks this year on Friday night, October 7. The Draconids differs from most other meteor showers in that it peaks in the evening instead of the early morning. The first quarter moon will block some of the fainter meteors this year but if you are patient you should still be able to catch a few good ones. Look to the southwest after sunset and be sure to find a dark site away from city lights. Happy hunting!

The annual Perseid #meteorShower peaks this year on Thursday night and Friday morning, August 11 & 12. This could be an amazing year for the #Perseids. The shower usually produces up to 60 meteors per hour. But some astronomers are predicting a rare outburst that could result in up to 200 meteors per hour. The first quarter moon will set shortly after midnight leaving dark skies for what should be an amazing early morning show. This is definitely one not to miss! Happy hunting!
The Perseid meteor shower — which is expected to hit its peak during the overnight hours from August 11 to August 12 — is usually considered one of the most spectacular annual light shows of the year. This year, however, it's going to be particularly impressive. Scientists are forecasting that the

Hi there, I was just checking out your page on astronomy software and I was wondering if you could recommend one that will allow me to view the sky from any point in the Milky Way? So, for example, say I wanted to view our Solar System from Beatleguise, is there a program out there that will allow me to do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

The annual #Lyrid #meteorShower peaks this week on the night of April 21st and morning of April 22nd. These meteors can sometimes produce bright dust trails that last for several seconds. Unfortunately the glare from the full moon will block out all but the brightest meteors. But if you are patient, you should still be able to catch a few good ones. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight.
Full moon is out all night at the peak of this year's Lyrid meteor shower. Best time to watch before dawn on April 22, 2016, but ... will you see any meteors?

A total #solarEclipse will take place in the Indian and Pacific Ocean on Tuesday, March 8 and Wednesday, March 9. The path of totality will only be visible in parts of central Indonesia and the parts of the Pacific Ocean. A partial eclipse will be visible in most parts of northern Australia and southeast Asia. Don't miss this one if you are lucky enough to be in the area.
Parts of southeast Asia will see it in totality, but Hawaii and Alaska are also top skywatching spots.
