Planning Your Outdoor Kitchen Design

Long gone are the days where the kitchen only resides inside the home. Outdoor kitchens have become extensions of our homes and can be the perfect spot for entertaining. On average, Orange County residents enjoy more than 280 days of sunshine each year, so why not take the party outside?

An outdoor kitchen is more than just a barbecue grill and some patio furniture. Today’s outdoor kitchens can include wet bars, pizza ovens, cook top burners, smokers, warming drawers and refrigerators. The sky’s the limit when it comes to designing your outdoor kitchen.

There is oftentimes more abundant outdoor kitchen space than inside, so homeowners are free to expound on their dream kitchen plans and ideas; adding large family dining tables, comfy couches in front of a built-in fireplace, televisions, bars, you name it – if you can dream it, we can implement it!

Utilizing a remodeling company is really the way to go when you are thinking about adding an outdoor kitchen. Dreaming of the perfect outdoor entertaining area is one thing, putting together a cohesive design plan is oftentimes much harder than you think. Discuss your vision with your designer, and let them handle the design, structural plans, material details and execution.

When thinking about your design, make sure your design does not isolate the cook from the rest of the party. Who wants to get stuck with grill duty off in a corner by yourself, while hearing everyone else having a blast somewhere else? Another thing to keep in mind is to include plenty of counter space in order to prep and serve food, as well as making sure that you have functional storage to avoid the trip back to the kitchen indoors.

When you are ready to start – give us a call and let’s design the perfect outdoor kitchen together!

How to Use Deco Style Tile in Your Remodel

There are literally thousands of ideas and products you can chose from when you are planning your residential remodel. Sometimes, homeowners are hesitant about doing something bold or dramatic, but a little pop of style and color here and there, can make a huge difference. This is where deco style tile can amp up your design, without being overwhelming.

In your Living Space

While using tile in a living room isn’t exactly conventional, it can really look amazing when done right. A large format deco style tile works great as an accent wall. An accent wall is especially beautiful around or on the wall of a fireplace. And while some might think accent walls are a thing of the past, when done right, an accent wall is absolutely stunning. Plus, it is a fantastic way to tie your newly remodeled room together.

In the Kitchen

Many homeowners are opting for a monochromatic kitchen design these days. It certainly has appeal, with its clean and streamlined look, however it can easily become boring. Adding a colorful design element into the kitchen can make a significant impact. Instead of using a white and gray color scheme, how about choosing a dark blue cabinet, with a deco style floor? Working in some deco style tile into your kitchen remodel is sure to make a statement and get people talking.

In the Bathroom

One easy way to bring some visual interest into your bathroom is to install some deco style tile. Consider using it as an accent tile baseboard or even as the back wall of an open-faced built in cabinet. This is an awesome way to bring some amazing color and visual interest into a lackluster bathroom. For those who would like to use deco style tile on their floor, there are some great options. You could certainly go bold, but for something a little more subdued, try using a tile with an unconventional shape and dark colored grout.

When done right, almost every design choice can be breathtaking. So, don’t be afraid of unconventional material selections. Your home should be as unique and beautiful as you are. Happy Remodeling!

How to Get the Most With Limited Living Space

Transitioning a small space from frustrating to fantasy might seem like an impossible task, but it’s not - it is an absolutely attainable goal for every homeowner! No matter which area of your home you want to improve, from your crowded family room to your small kitchen, maximizing limited living space always starts with defining your goals for that particular area.

If you love to entertain, your kitchen design needs to reflect that. If you enjoy having friends and family over, you will need to incorporate adequate seating space in your living areas. The trick is to break down each individual space and visualize how you want to use it, then picture that space from a new perspective.

Try incorporating these 4 simple tips into your design, and you will be surprised at how easy it is to take your small space from frustrating to fantasy.

1. Create Zones

Small spaces can be the breeding ground for chaos. The easiest way to combat this, is to designate specific areas within your space for certain activities. For example, simply adding a coat rack in an entry way, will help to alleviate the problem of jackets getting tossed around in random places. Don’t be afraid to eliminate or add furniture to accommodate your own unique living philosophies. If you find that you enjoy entertaining, but your guests have a difficult time navigating around your kitchen, don’t be afraid to eliminate your kitchen table. You need to design your living areas around how YOU live, not what tradition dictates.

2. Let the Light in

We cannot stress this enough – embrace natural light! There is nothing like some Southern California sunshine to create the illusion of a bigger space. However, if your space has limited opportunity for natural light, you can opt for brightness in your decorating. Choosing a light paint color for the walls not only adds some brightness, but also an element of freshness to the room. Try to limit using dark, heavy furniture as your main focal pieces, instead reserve those dark elements as accent pieces.

3. Think Vertically

Vertical storage can be a lifesaver, especially if it is done right! Everyone has that one spot in their home, that they just don’t know what to do with. Instead of trying to fill that space with a functionless table or chair, consider adding some vertical storage. We all have items that we don’t need, or use on a regular basis, and these awkward spots in our home are the perfect solution for storing them. It might take some time and effort to find the perfect storage piece to fit into that difficult space, but the work is well worth the reward.

4. Don’t Overdo It

In confined spaces with design overload, the eye gets overwhelmed and doesn’t know where to look first! Clean lines and minimalistic style furniture will shine in a limited living area. We may not realize it, but design overload can add to the uncomfortable feeling of a small space. Practical and simple is the way to go. This is especially true when considering a bathroom remodel; unpretentious, yet practical storage will make your bathroom feel streamlined and open, no matter the size. Keeping it simple, will ensure your small space is always inviting and charming for yourself and your guests.
