I've been watching this show with my children. It's a very good show, and there's a lot of pathos in this story. It's also framed in the episode with an expedition that the good guys are going to see a movie they had filmed in the previous episode called Pokemon in Love. This backstory is shown when they're supposed to be watching that film, and it's really quite astonishing how powerful it is to me.
Meowf is the only Pokemon who can talk. He hangs out with these inept bad guys called Team Rocket. This is the 72nd episode and until now we had no idea why he could talk. Turns out he did so to impress this female Meowf (the only time I've ever seen gender depicted in a Pokemon type). He wants to say he's better than her human caretaker. He works so hard to learn to walk and to learn to talk to get the girl.
This probably doesn't make any sense if you've never seen the show, but it's the best example of how deep this show can go at times. My children know all of the Pokemon, what their powers are, how to play the game, and it's good to know that in all of that is a set of stories I can share with them.
I had to write this somewhere. I may be going nuts.
