This is something we were talking about at work on Friday. If you aren't sure you've already uninstalled, check.

The kingdom was lost, all for the want of a nail.

It's a bit scary really.

The Office of Personnel Management just released the steps that it has taken to protect over 21 million federal employees whose data was stolen in what may be the worst cyber security breach in history. Now keep in mind that ...

Interesting article from March. I've worked in a SOC for a number of years, and have toured several both in the public and private sectors. I see a lot of the failings noted in the article, but I've also seen a lot of the tips being used quite effectively.

One of the critical points in the article is the paring down of the data sets, determine what logs are useful and what are not, excising those that aren't useful. I see far too many organizations keeping logs for the sake of keeping logs. Another major failing I see is keeping metrics on just about everything, mostly for the sake of keeping metrics. This really isn't useful to anyone.
The fightback against security risks is very real – but Luke Jennings, head of research and development at Countercept by MWR InfoSecurity, still sees flaws

There's often a reason we can't have nice things. Where tech is deliberately squashed because lawmakers will make laws about things they have no clue about.

Case in point:

Scary weekend for our family getting a call that Daniel had been shot twice.

He might not be my child by blood, but I certainly consider him my son and the news was pretty much crushing when we got it.

Going to be a stressful couple of weeks for the whole family.

After what Chandler police are saying looks like an ambush on police, an officer remains hospitalized and is preparing to undergo a second surgery.

Thanks. My daughter and I seem to be the best off, as we talk about it. Everyone else just clams up

I had no idea about this. None.  Over 500,000 people evacuated from Manhattan in under 9 hours. The largest water based evacuation in the world, and I had no clue.

It's a 12 minute video.  You should watch it.

I do a lot of work with Little League, and our Motto is "It's for the kids".  For so many of the cast and crew of Sesame Street, it isn't a motto, it's a lifestyle.

I haven't watched that show in nearly 20 years (my daughter never got into it), but seeing the announcement of Maria leaving brought a tear to my eye.

Not Sean Paul the singer
Introduction
Not the singer, seriously

I work in the Computer Security industry, love Star Wars *and* (gasp) Star Trek, play computer and video games and am pretty much an all around geek/nerd (depending on your own definition).

So if you're here reading my posts looking for someone artsy, poetic or graceful with a microphone, let me assure you that I could not carry a tune in a bucket (honest, I fail out on most songs on Rock Band in the Easy mode while singing).  If you're not here for those things, welcome to the fold.

I have more Lego sets in the office than anyone else.

our cable box was flagged for replacement, no call, no nothing, at least not until I called with a problem and the tech was all "it says here you should have already replaced that unit". Awesome. Of course this is on a Friday, and all the techs are booked for Saturday, but he states that I can go into the office in the morning and get it replaced. Sadly, when I got to the office in Sierra Vista, it was closed. Sure it SAYS that they are open on Saturdays both online and in the computers the techs have available, when you pull up into the empty parking lot and see the sign on the door that says closed weekends.
