It's a bit deflating when you start to get happy about a warmup in the area...only to realize you're warming up to temperatures that are still 15 degrees below normal.

And still, very little snow - Boston gotta learn to share.

That persistent western ridge is something that doesn't get a whole lot of attention, but its effects - especially on drought and fire potential are potentially huge.

It may look cool unless you are on the receiving end of it.  (Boston - we've had 2 big snowstorms already - ARRGGGHHHH!!!!)

How fine was the snow we got in Green Bay today? Enough to get drawn into my air system, and make it snow in the car for a few minutes!

So, what happens when your low goes too far north? Those one to two inches of snow you were expecting overnight ends up just being rain Sad Trombone

Look at that lonely snow fence - what a sad situation.

Up in Rhinelander for the Wisconsin state fire weather meeting tomorrow. I've seen plenty of forestry vehicles emblazoned with "FIRE" - drove several of them when I was in Florida - but I've got to admit it's a first for me to see one covered in snow.

If you're looking for something to watch on TV tonight, hurry up and catch the second half of The Big Burn on PBS. It's the event that, for better and for worse, defined the way we've treated fire in the US ever since.
It was the largest fire in American history: by the time it was all over, more than three million acres had burned and at least 78 firefighters were dead.

That car in Hays, KS does not go very far until it disappears into the blowing snow.

For what I'm sure is the first time in my life, I was up for the first sunrise of the year, and it was a super-awesome deep red one. I took a picture, and naturally it turned out awful.

So, instead, please enjoy this really awesome picture of this morning's sunrise from Alabama.

One of my minor annoyances with the Day 4-8 Outlook is solved. Now 15% areas are outlined on the map, which is more in line with the Day 2-3 outlooks. I'd guess the reason for not having it before was related to demonstrating skill at that time frame first, but I'll be glad it's in there now.

Snow football is the best football!

Unfortunately, things are wrapping up here, and the flakes won't be falling for much longer, and might even be done by the time kickoff comes around.

The snow is falling at Lambeau Field.

Introduction
As it seems with most meteorologists, you can insert some story about falling in love with the weather at a young age. For me, it was the 1995 hurricane season - which is strange, considering I grew up in an area that would never see a tropical impact.

Since then, I've done research with upper-air observation platforms, hurricanes, dual-pol radar, winter precipitation, and fire weather. After a stint as Florida's state fire meteorologist, I now work for the National Weather Service in Green Bay, WI.

As you'd probably expect - everything I post here is my own, not my agency's.
