Twist: there is no closet
Leaving a job is never easy. Doubly so if you liked it and/or the people. The obligation to those you leave behind is, at least for me, also a bit daunting and agonizing. I don't like schmaltzy farewells or half-hearted platitudes. But, I also don't hold it against folks because I know it's hard ...

The secret is you're a chump (like me) for watching this.
Time and time again, I feel like I end up defending myself a little bit in these reviews, desperately scrounging at times to justify why I watch (to completion) and subsequently review (no small effort) so much transparently commercial otaku-bait. I get it: the anime genre itself is, ...

Forgot to pimp this one from last summer. My desperate attempt to finish up reviewing three shows I'd seen the previous year... and now it's taken me to yet another following year to actually share it. #suchlazy
All three of these probably warrant longer reviews but… I procrastinated so long I've forgotten too much to say more. I'm ashamed to say it's been since sometime last year when I finished watching these. Shin Sekai Yori title/logo Shin Sekai Yori (translated as From the New World) is nothing ...

Yes, those are two grilled cheese sandwiches... used as the bun for a burger.... on a bed of more fried cheese.

God bless food trucks.

I also reviewed this weird little short. She's a phantom thief! A cat burglar!
As an anime and weirdo Japanophile who's a bit long in the tooth I've been around the JPop block long enough. Even so, while I have long had a cursory knowledge of its existence, I can't say that I've ever shown any genuine interest in Morning Musume. I thought it was a TV show for the longest ...

Incredibly beautiful animation married to a competently delivered story.

Got caught up in the Rainbow Rocks stuff last month that I forgot to pimp this. Hey, c'mon now, don't look so heartbroken...
Now this… this is a good movie. Superbly animated, wonderfully executed, and a joy to sit through. Other than the slightly confusing ending I'd still say it's damn near flawless for what it is and sets out to do. It mixes school romance, replete with blushing beauties, a childhood friend, ...

"It’s possible that its style of humor just won’t tickle your dickle like it did mine, and that’s fine… if you’re a Nazi sympathizer." - me
#anime
I have long been led to believe that the domain of the three-minute mini-series were for the adaptations and ideas that, well, to be charitable… couldn't secure real funding. Maybe they're too risky, maybe too niche (even by anime standards), or maybe it's sometimes just all the money and talent ...

Sugary-cuteness distilled into lukewarm mild comedy. Coulda been worse!

Also, I re-worked my several-years-old blog theme. It's still meh but it's at least fully mobile-friendly now and a bit more widescreen friendly. It'll also be easier for me to improve it going forward. Exciting times we live in, eh?
Super cute, colorful, and charismatic. Do you revel in lolicakes? This show excels in loli by putting on a fantastic presentation. It's got fairly high production value and it shows by having gorgeous storybook backgrounds, a swelling soundtrack, and more cute little girls being friends and cute ...

The absurdist's guide to killing time in class.
As someone who, generally speaking, detested school and the many thousands of hours I spent waiting for the bell to ring, I can sympathize with the desire to zone out and just doodle or whatever to pass the time. Of course, in my case that's about as far as it went; I never did try to sneak in ...

If GLaDOS had an anime body and wanted to be a Japanese super idol.
I have been a long, long time fan of Horie Yui ever since seeing (and obsessing over) Love Hina so many years ago. She's delightfully talented in both speaking and singing roles and she's managed to maintain that for well over a decade now (though even her great talent can't save some series).

It's been well over a decade since I should have seen this but better late than never.
