I'm glad Obama is openly in favor of the gay marriage ruling, but a small part of me is annoyed that he waited until after somebody else made it official to jump on the bandwagon. It's a little convenient and timely for him to be suddenly so pro gay.
Just a few years ago, conveniently before being elected the first time, he was firmly in favor of the union being between a man and woman (you can find plenty of YouTube clips, mostly linked to from Republican sympathizers). Just a couple years ago he says he's "evolving" his opinion. That's fine, actually. He can change his mind. I'm not really one to bust flip-flopping because I'd rather somebody admit they were wrong than dogmatically refuse to change. But hell if it isn't damn convenient timing.
I guess, given the usual practice of awful presidents (Obama included), this is way, way better than expected. I should be thankful. And, I am. But... ugh.
You know what? Forget it. A hell of a lot of people are a lot happier, or at least better protected under the law, as partners. That's fantastic. Fuck the president. None of this was his doing, so fuck him, but... thanks for not ignoring it either, Barry. (You know, like marijuana.)
