Ketchup in my meal without me having to ask? Must be a glitch in the Matrix.

I have been reading over several articles from when I first published my blog. It's really interesting to see the evolution of my writing over the last few years. When I started medicmadness.com, I actually hadn't intended on writing to EMS professionals. My intent was to educate the general public on the profession and possibly act as a resource to those wanting to seek a career in EMS. I was so focused on trying to stick to a certain theme rather than just write what's on my mind. Once I quit setting arbitrary rules for myself and just started writing what came to mind, my readership exploded. Never in a million years did I think that so many people would actually care about what I have to say.

Here is a link to the first article I ever published. Try not to laugh too hard :-)

Wow. Not impressed. Way to make us all look bad. They should all have been required a return to work sign off from a physician or face action from the board as that was clearly an organized effort. How did this not make bigger headlines? If it were anyone from my house they'd better have been sick and I mean bird flu sick or they'd be in the unemployment line.

Paramedic, Musician, Blogger
Introduction
When I'm asked to describe myself, I typically think of 3 titles: Paramedic, Musician and Blogger. But before any of that, I am first and foremost a family man. I currently live in North Texas and I have 2 beautiful daughters. I was born and raised in Southern California and moved here to the "Lone Star State" in September of 2011.

When I'm not spending time with my family, I love to entertain. I find great joy in meeting people and providing quality content, whether it be on the bandstand or through my various blogs.

EMS

I have been working in EMS since 2003, when I started at a "mom-and-pop" ambulance service in Central California. I owe much of my success today to that place. They took me in when most people weren't hiring and they really taught me the right way to be a good EMT.

I stayed there nearly 2 years before getting picked up with a much larger ambulance service about an hour down the road. While employed at my new job, I attended paramedic school and was released to practice in October of 2005. Since then, I have held many positions including "Field Paramedic", "Paramedic Preceptor", and "Paramedic Field Supervisor". During my time with the large ambulance service, I learned a lot about EMS operations, safety compliance, system status management, and I just flat out ran a bunch of calls and gained experience that I couldn't find anywhere else.

In August of 2011, I said my final goodbye to that service and headed east towards my new home in Texas. I now work for a children's hospital and part-time for a very small, rural ambulance service. I'm gaining experience that I never had before and I'm working in environments that I never imagined.

Music

I trace my roots in the music business to my parents and grandparents. I never knew my grandfather all that well, but I do know that he was a well accomplished musician and an all around good man. He taught my mother how to play the pedal steel guitar at the young age of 4. To this day, she still plays regularly in various local bands around her town. My father started his music career in the 50's and had quite the amount of accomplishments. He toured with Chubby Checker for several years before starting his own band that made a substantial footprint around the surf-rock era. He wrote music that was featured in films like "Pulp Fiction" and he continues to pound away on his piano today.

I grew up watching my parents play and I always dreamed of being in their shoes. I have a ways to go before I ever accomplish what my parents have, but I do play music on a regular basis. I started out playing hard-rock in high-school and have since played in various bands with genres ranging from classic rock, to blues to country. I currently play drums in a country band that regularly opens for big artists in the Dallas / Fort-Worth area. Like I said, I have a ways to go before even touching the surface of what my parents have accomplished.

Blogging

I have always enjoyed on computers and creating all types of content. When I started in EMS, I was always looking for other people from different areas working in the same field that I could network with. After paramedic school, I started "MedicMadness.com" as a social network for EMS professionals. That project had little success but was quickly beaten down by larger EMS social networks that popped up. Rather than give up, I canned the social-network project and re-opened Medic Madness as an EMS blog. It was a great way for me to speak my mind and provide quality content to EMS professionals all over the world.

After my first year of running Medic Madness, the site grew to big and in too many directions. I was writing humorous topics, political stuff, educational pieces and I started doing Android app reviews. I eventually decided to start DroidMedic.com as a way to separate the tech stuff from the rest. Droid Medic instantly grew a large following because nobody else was talking about the use of the Android operating system in EMS. To this day, I try my best to provide EMS professionals with helpful resources to unleash the power of mobile technology during their everyday routines in pre-hospital medicine.
