A man driving a farm tractor ran over eight vehicles in the parking lot of a Vermont police station in an apparent revenge scheme, according to local reports.

Hmm, ok. Got the new layout. Didn't realize there were hashtags. I don't hate it! Guess that's good enough.

Thanks to +Brian Wisti for this great pointer to the truth about those unattributed Facebook shares that turn out to be bullshit of the highest order.

You recognize it, of course, because it’s been on 12 billion Facebook walls along with its story: A bullfighter suddenly comes to a moral crossroads, the realization that his chosen profession is cruel and vicious, something he can no longer abide. And thus, mid-bullfight, he sits on the edge of the ring, an apparently forgiving bull standing before him, the former foe now a sympathetic ally.

This, appropriately, is bullshit.

Urban legends and other miscellaneous bullshit far, far predate the Internet; indeed, the Internet is a weapon against bullshit.

I guess it's true that these things can spread more rapidly now, but that's a small price to pay for having ready access to actual facts almost instantly. At this point, anybody who cares about veracity pretty much has no excuse for ever falling for crap like this, since, you know, googlewikipediasnopeswhatever.

Honestly, this is a massive contrast to the pre-Internet days, where you couldn't just look everything up - you were far more likely to be caught by bullshit because the act of verification was dramatically more convoluted, and generally involved physically going to a library and doing actual research rather than typing a thing into a box. No, you didn't call the guy spreading misinformation an idiot, because unless you were an expert in the thing he was actually saying you probably didn't know otherwise yourself and you had no easy way to find out. Even if you suspected it was made up, good luck proving it!

At this point people only buy into such tall tales because They Want To Believe, not because the Internet makes them stupid.

Looking for something like Google Sites that we could install locally. Something with a task list, wiki, calendar, and file storage. Nice-to-haves would be bug tracking and change requests. So far I've found TWiki. Anyone know about other cheap good options?
