Android App Woes - Hopefully by the time you read this the new Android version of the ScoutmasterCG app will be available on Google play! Unfortunately the only way to get this fixed was to un-publish the old version and publish a completely new one, so Android users will have to uninstall the present app and install the newer version. Good news though – the new Android app is still free, (thanks to the continued generosity of those of you who have become backers. ) If ... http://ow.ly/2WBPyi

Training or Developing Youth Leaders - I taught my step-son to drive from the passenger seat of a beat-up, old, standard transmission Honda Civic. I am pretty sure the best way to learn how to start from a stop with a clutch is sitting behind the wheel, feeling the clutch engage, pressing the gas pedal, and stalling the car a couple of times. “Push the clutch in all the way with your left foot.” “Okay” “Start the car” “Okay” “Now, shift the transmission into first.” “Ok... http://ow.ly/2W6k0V

Bedwetting and Scouts - Every so often I hear from a Scouter or parent about a Scout who has a problem with bedwetting. It goes without saying that I am not a medical expert, but I did a little research and several sources agree an estimated 3.75 -5.25 million boys (and a smaller number of girls) in the United States have a medical condition known as nocturnal enuresis (NE) or involuntary urination during sleep, commonly called bedwetting. At those numbers NE is one of ... http://ow.ly/2VqNth

Great article, Clarke!

I worked at a Webelos specific adventure camp for 5 years and this is a problem we frequently saw with scouts in their first overnight camp setting. You do a great job of reminding the leaders to empathize and make extra efforts to accommodate the scout so that he can have an enjoyable week at camp. Also remember that the camp staff sees this often, and are willing to help you with access to laundry facilities and other needs. The biggest thing I can speak of from personal experience on the scout side is the need (and want from the scout) for discretion.

Campfire Ballads - Do you know the campfire ballads about Sam and Dan? If you are fortunate you’ve sat in rapt attention around a campfire, chills running up your back, a smile on your face, listening to a skilled orator recite the campfire ballads of Sam McGee or Dan McGrew. Both of these venerable, spooky (yet humorous), campfire ballads were penned by “The Bard of the Yukon” author Robert William Service. Service reflected ; “Verse, not poetry, is what I was after … ... http://ow.ly/2VaA4l

Building Resilience, 7 Cs and Scouting - An author was being interviewed on the radio in the background as I was working away at my desk. He was discussing building resilience in young people. As I listened I thought “Hey! Who is this guy? This sounds a lot like Scouting!” This got me thinking about the big ideas that form the foundations of the Scouting method +and a specific instance of what I suppose you’d call “spontaneous inspiration”. In 1907 Baden-Powell took the... http://ow.ly/2V7zBG
