The City of Scottsdale is now “Nextdoor”

A handful of city departments are now participating in community conversations via Nextdoor – the neighborhood social network.

Residents can sign up for free and connect with their neighbors at www.Nextdoor.com.

City departments sharing neighborhood-specific information include Police, Neighborhood Services, Solid Waste, Parks & Recreation and Scottsdale Public Library.

Residents don’t need to “like” or “friend” city agencies, when the city posts things for their neighborhoods, they’ll see those messages as part of their stream.

However, neighborhood websites on Nextdoor remain private – city staff cannot see other conversations taking place there.

Join the conversation at www.Nextdoor.com

Nice shots of a foggy downtown Scottsdale from +Brandon Wiggins.

An hour earlier probably would have been better, but some rare fog around downtown +City of Scottsdale (Official)  on Super Bowl Sunday morning.

What's going on with Google Fiber?

Google has announced the first wave of additional cities where it plans to deploy +Google Fiber. Scottsdale, Phoenix and Tempe have been working with Google, but will not be part of the next wave of expansion.

But our work with them continues - Google has made it clear that Scottsdale, Tempe and Phoenix are all still in the running for a future Google system expansion, and we are still in discussions with them about possibilities for the future.

#Scottsdale
Google Fiber will not be bringing super-fast Internet service to metro Phoenix as hoped, at least for now, the company announced today.

Cox had them beat. They just needed a little scare from Google to get their ass in gear.

Paying a Bet

That's Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane with Surprise Mayor Sharon Wolcott - who paid a visit to Scottsdale to pay a bet she made at the start of the 2014 World Series.

The American League Champion Kansas City Royals, who hold Spring Training in Surprise, took on Scottsdale's home team for spring, the San Francisco Giants - and we know how that turned out.

The mayors made a bet, and Mayor Wolcott sported her Giants gear in good sportsmanship to pay it off.

Here's hoping for another all Cactus League World Series, and another San Francisco Giants World Championship in 2015!

Take the shuttle car to Scottsdale

When the Ingleside Inn opened near Scottsdale in 1909-10, automobile travel was a new concept, and many tourists relied on travel by precursors to modern day shuttles. This one also looked like it carried the U.S. Mail as well.
