Would like to see a similar comparison of Australian shopping search engine / price comparison sites.
It sounds pretty damning. Two recent surveys suggest that Google Shopping isn’t leading searchers to the best prices on products. But the surveys weren’t well documented, nor did they include competitors like Bing, Shopzilla, PriceGrabber and Nextag, which have similar issues. So, Search Engine Land will be running its own fully documented tests. Every few […]

Hollywood's definition of "busy website" seems to be "ten thousand hits an hour" (which is less than 3 hits per second, which is not a lot even if each involves a full page view). Also video streams don't "twitch" when servers got overloaded or bandwidth exhausted. They simply pause to catch up with buffering.

My phone line & ADSL has also been disconnected for the last 48 hours (I'm about 100 metres to where the cables have been cut). Got told that it would be fixed by COB Friday. Finger crossed.

Meanwhile, working from home WITHOUT broadband -- truly suck.

Interesting article by Ruslan Kogan about the "ugly affiliate marketing scam". A few things,

1. Yeah, somehow +OzBargain ranked #1 on "Kogan Voucher" on Google AU and also on the first page SERP of other related keywords.

2. Kogan is on DGM network in Australia currently paying 0.75% commission. Various cashback sites are rebating between 0.5-0.7%. However I don't recall the commission has ever been 5 or 10%.

3. Yes, I did apply to be an affiliate of Kogan on the DGM network, but got rejected pretty much straight away. They probably thought we are one of those ugly affiliate scam :) Interestingly cashback sites are approved, and I don't think they are the kind that "send in new visitors".

4. We are still sending them quite a bit of traffic & sales nevertheless :)
Affiliate marketing was driving $200,000 per week in new sales for this website. At least, that's what the commission bill said.

Interesting analysis on Reddit's ranking algorithm and what's wrong with it.
Reddit has a bug in their code. This bug is currently present in their production platform, and has been for years. It affects one of the most important algorithms in the entire site, the “Hot” ranking algorithm for link popularity. It has real, demonstrable negative effects.

Interesting "ideas" of getting 3 million Likes on Facebook - by re-posting an image of a girl holding sign saying "my daddy said I can get a puppy only if I can get 1 million likes". Ethical?

Quick review, especially comparing with Galaxy Nexus that I have been using - 1) at $299 this phone is almost a steal 2) feels thicker and slightly heavier than GNex 3) LCD is definitely not as nice as AMOLED, even a pentile one 4) Qualcomm S4Pro is fast enough, although the OMAP is fast enough for me as well 5) camera still sucks, although suck less than GNex. Worthwhile upgrade from GNex? Not really, but best phone under $300? Most definitely.

Taken from Alexa, which shows how wrong they are. Not that I don't already know but this particular stats just confirms it.

Unofficial ABC iView app on Android. Works well on my Galaxy Nexus and Tecra2 based tablet, and it's an open source project hosted on GitHub. Kudoz to the developers! Now I wonder where is my tax-money-funded official iView app?!!
