Was just briefly interviewed by NPR's Pat Morrison on the branding implications of American Apparel's ousting of its litigation-challenged CEO, Dov Charney. This, to me, speaks to the larger problem/opportunity of America's companies to think way beyond their marketing when it comes to defining their brands. Gotta be about something bigger than yourself. Vision and values mean everything when you're trying to create deeper, more profitable target connections.

Was reminded of this typically brilliant & bold quote from advertising legend David Ogilvy:

"Any damn fool can put on a deal, but it takes genius, faith and perseverance to build a brand."
