By default, the bar found at the bottom of your Chromebook screen contains shortcut icons to some of the most commonly used apps_ such as the Chrome browser or Gmail. Known as the taskbar on Windows machines or the dock on Macs, Google refers to it as the Chrome OS Shelf.

Apps aren't the only shortcuts that can be added to your Shelf, however, as Chrome OS provides the ability to place shortcuts to your favorite websites there as well.
