Once in a while one of my images just grabs me to be “pushed” – to what it can become. This is one of those – a drab, flat image that comes to life in processing it. It’s an image of a San Francisco Powell Street cable car coming down the hill – shot from …

Cameras are just tools in the photographer’s trade – capturing moments of time and light onto a sensor. Frankly, there’s not that much of a noticeable difference in the results from cameras across a range of cost. It’s much more about the moment, the composition, and the light – than it is about the camera. …

I’m often blown away by the quality of the images that my iPhone 5s captures. This is one of those examples – shot on New Year’s Day morning at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Post-processed to monochrome in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC with a bit of platinum toning applied. Related posts: Riders on …

Here’s a quick grab shot taken at Embarcadero Plaza in downtown San Francisco. The Plaza has a bunch of small vendors, artists, photographers, etc. selling their wares. It’s a busy place – especially around lunch time. Last time we were there, there was a small table setup behind a couple of the booths with this …

Does this mean the market street chess players have a new home? That would be great!

Stare. It is the way to educate your eye, and more. Stare, pry, listen, eavesdrop. Die knowing something. You are not here long. - Walker Evans, 1960

My passion is photography - having picked up a decent DSLR about 5 years ago that re-kindled an earlier love for the art.  I have an eclectic range of interests and subjects as I continue to explore the wonder of capturing these little moments in time.  See my personal portfolio for the images I consider my best.

I'm also co-founder, sometime photographer and chief engineer for InMenlo.com, a hyperlocal news and features site for the communities of Menlo Park and Atherton, California.

In my "day job", I'm a founding partner of Glenbrook Partners, a payments consulting firm based in Menlo Park, California. Glenbrook provides a range of strategy consulting and educational resources to payments professionals worldwide.

You can find out more about my professional background here and my other interests on my personal blog.  I also like to cook - mostly simple and fun stuff - my recipe blog is Scott's Kitchen.

Su Hong to Go is a long-time Menlo Park mainstay and favorite spot of mine for lunch The Chinese Chicken Salad is one of my favorites. Call 10 minutes ahead and pick up when you arrive. There are a few tables to eat in - nothing fancy - but mostly this is a take out/home restaurant.
