“When we grab hold of ‘correct’ thinking for dear life, when we refuse to let go because we think that doing so means letting go of God, when we dig in our heels and stay firmly planted even when we sense that we need to let go and move on, at that point we are trusting our thoughts rather than God. We have turned away from God’s invitation to trust in order to cling to an idol.”

‪Old Testament scholar, Pete Enns, interviews theologian & biologist, Denis Lamoureux, on his podcast “The Bible for Normal People.” Some great stuff on the goodness of evolution.

Wait, animals have souls? What?!

Well, they actually don’t have souls. They are souls.

‪What if our worship connected with our emotions? Yes!‬

‪What if our worship also connected with our bodies, our minds, our taste buds, our five senses?‬

‪What would holistic worship look like?‬

‪That’s the worship the ancients of Scripture passed on to us.‬

‪The predominant storyline is we, us, our.‬

Tomorrow we’re talking about Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah & Esther in OT Survey. That means I get to bring in some Switchfoot & “We Are One Tonight.” Unity is a big theme in these books.

I continue to believe that true power & wisdom looks like this: a fairly young rabbi from Nazareth hanging dead on a tree, even on behalf of his enemies.

No power-hungry plays.
No manipulation.
No office to lose or win.
No violence.
No rhetorical raging.
No retribution.

Rather self-sacrificial love as a man laid down his arms & asked his father to forgive those who put him to death.

Somehow that is the true way of power & wisdom. It’s so hard to believe - then & now.

To think that one day all political power moves & manipulation (from any & all) will be fully done away with.

No more. Ever.

To imagine we can look to actually live that future out now. Especially those who claim to follow a crucified, middle-eastern man from Nazareth.
