Out in the middle of nowhere is a great place for a Koala Institute but not a very good place for a bail bondsman.

As we close out the year, we asked a few members of the Revolution Analytics team to make a few predictions about big data analytics, data science and R for 2014. Here's what they came up with (including a few from yours truly). Michele Chambers, Chief Strategy Officer and VP Product Management While the sexiest job in 2013 was the data scientist generalist, in 2014 the focus will shift to data analysts in dedicated business units. The demand for...

JCPenney fooled us all with their drunk-seeming Super Bowl tweets, which they later revealed to be the result of "tweeting with mittens." Mittens you can buy at JCPenney, of course. It was either a weirdly successful marketing ploy or a really mean trick to pull on on cold social media editors.  Toughdown Seadawks!! Very very interesting. I want one--I've always wanted to improve my posture. But iOS only won't work for me. I'll have to wait for 2nd gen or better to see how these go.

New from Lumo: Lumo Lift is a smaller and more discrete tracker for your posture.

Pre-order for $69 for a limited time! http://www.lumobodytech.com/

On the programming language (M#?) behind the Midori project:

>"We're like Rust in that we want to maximize safety and performance, and we're willing to add fancy type system features to get there," Bromfield said. "We're like Go in that we want to be simple and approachable, in much the same way that .Net attempted to simplify programming. We're like D in that we want the language to feel very familiar to devs using an existing language (C# for us, C++ for them) -- just better."
We take stock of some recent developments of note regarding Microsoft's hush-hush 'Midori' operating system project. Read this article by Mary Jo Foley on CNET News.

Very interested by this notion of Open Salaries: http://open.bufferapp.com/introducing-open-salaries-at-buffer-including-our-transparent-formula-and-all-individual-salaries/

Not quite sure how it would work out for recruiting, but if it helps you get the people you need at a price that's fair for everybody, I love it!
When we first established the 9 Buffer values that we wanted to have as the center of our company culture, we knew that sticking to these ideas will be an incredible challenge. Especially since we've seen before that these values can easily end up being little more than a set of words written on ...
