The cruise ship is turning!
At tonight's meeting, the Mountain View City Council voted to amend the city's General Plan to allow housing in North Bayshore. And not just in the core area; in the whole of North Bayshore. Wahoo!
I have been advocating for this change since 2008, when the Land Use Working Group of the City's Environmental Sustainability Task Force included this as one of our top recommendations for the 2030 General Plan. It may have taken nearly 7 years, but it feels like we're finally making some progress on housing policy in MV. Thank you to Councilmember Siegel for officially moving to include all of North Bayshore in the amendment, and thanks to all the council members who voted to amend!
(Possibly some of the credit goes to Steph Curry and the Warriors for making the meeting's turnout relatively sparse... none of the usual anti-housing characters showed up to offer countering opinions to mine. Go Warriors!)
Now on to the precise plan public input process... and then to find developers who will actually build the housing. We're not done, lots more to do. It is still a cruise ship, after all.+Anna Botelho
