If you are the west coast, go outside and look to the west right now and you can see something rare and beautiful: the crescent moon right next to dim red Mars, and bright Venus, in the fading indigo sunset!

If you are on the east coast, don't go outside into the crippling cold.

Fantastic news for Mountain View!

The cruise ship is turning!

At tonight's meeting, the Mountain View City Council voted to amend the city's General Plan to allow housing in North Bayshore. And not just in the core area; in the whole of North Bayshore. Wahoo!

I have been advocating for this change since 2008, when the Land Use Working Group of the City's Environmental Sustainability Task Force included this as one of our top recommendations for the 2030 General Plan. It may have taken nearly 7 years, but it feels like we're finally making some progress on housing policy in MV. Thank you to Councilmember Siegel for officially moving to include all of North Bayshore in the amendment, and thanks to all the council members who voted to amend!

(Possibly some of the credit goes to Steph Curry and the Warriors for making the meeting's turnout relatively sparse... none of the usual anti-housing characters showed up to offer countering opinions to mine. Go Warriors!)

Now on to the precise plan public input process... and then to find developers who will actually build the housing. We're not done, lots more to do. It is still a cruise ship, after all.

Adorable and talented young photographer! I love the cover picture for the story, with his goggles at a jaunty angle on his forehead.

The Photography of 4-Year-Old Hawkeye Huey, Son of Nat Geo Photographer Aaron Huey

Hawkeye Huey, son of National Geographic photographer Aaron Huey, is taking Instagram by storm with his instant photography.

And yes... he does shake each photo back and forth before handing it to his subject to look at.
There's an intensity on Hawkeye Huey's face as he looks out from Salvation Mountain in Colorado, Fujifilm Instax 210 in hand, goggles askew on his forehead
