Galaxy S5 vs. HTC One (M8): Which should you get?

Two of the most eye-catching Android phones of the year are begging for our attention right now -- and all the hype can make it hard to know which one's right for you.

So let's make this simple, shall we? After living with both devices, I've put together the following guide to help you figure it out:

Every time I see someone buy a new Samsung device because "it's the newest/best phone" I hurt a little inside. Some guy on my friend's status is trying to tell me that because the S5 came out recently versus the M8 coming out last month that it's now top-of-the-line and better.

Can someone do a test and see if the Moto X runs smoother than the S5? I imagine it does.

Nathan: Look up the specs. Galaxy s5 is better

Scott Attula: Specs aren't quite as important anymore, it's about software optimization. That's why the Moto X runs smoother on less hardware yet has more background processes going on.

Nathan: The Samsung galaxy s5 is better. In everything. With a quad core processor

Apple, Google, and Microsoft are but a few of the names that have announced a commitment to including features to deter smartphone theft in all future products. Even the carriers are on board, with the big four announcing support and commitment as well. What they're all committing to is the "Smartphone Anti-Theft Voluntary Commitment." All phones sold by the signees after July 2015...

Introduction
I come from Santa Barbara, CA, where it's always sunny and warm. I could walk to the beach from my house in under twenty minutes, and I was a short drive away from anything I wanted to do. I could even drive to Disneyland if I wanted to.
Now I live in Rexburg, ID and I'm attending Brigham Young University- Idaho. It's 60 degrees and windy during the Fall. It also snows. I'm cold. My roommates are driving me crazy. But it's awesome.
I'm studying for a Computer Science major, which I hope to use to...do computer things. Which is what I enjoy. Technology. I'm sure you've already noticed that I post (maybe a little too much) stuff about technology. And I hope you're okay with that. If you're not, I don't care.
Android is my new favorite, of which I own a Droid Bionic and a Transformer Infinity. And I love video games. Like Halo. Halo is my personal favorite game, and of course I love other shooters. I'm going to continue fragmenting my sentences just for fun.
So you probably thought "Oh, BYU. He must be a Mormon." And you'd be right. Except I'm part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints, meaning I'm LDS. I'm sure you knew that already, but call us Mormons anyways. And I guess I'm cool with that.
I hope you enjoyed my intro, as I tried to make it as horrible as I could while still getting my point across.

Pros: -Close proximity to BYU-I -Close proximity to stores and a short walk to Main Street -Management is willing to work with you -Pool and gym -Spacious lounge -Free laundry -Free haircuts and other goodies and discounts -Decent pricing, with a loyalty discount -Choice of 2, 4, or 6 man rooms -Comfortable beds -Updates to apartments are coming, including extra fridges for larger apartments and new TVs. Cons: -Still two blocks away from BYU-I, and on the side with the least amount of buildings with classes -The complex has been around for a long time, and is very old. They've repaired and replaced a lot, but it still needs more work. -Winter conditions tend to be poorer than other areas (usually the walkways outside of the actual complex) and often take a long time to be cleaned up -Apartments aren't really that big (a common occurrence in Rexburg, especially for men), especially the bathrooms -No AC for the hot summers -Internet was replaced with a better ISP, but it's still very poor and much is filtered out that doesn't need to be (I've never experienced good internet in Rexburg though)
