Some pics at an overlook in Lowell Park. Somewhere down there is the Rock River.

I stopped at the halfway point for refreshments. The selfie from my stem-mounted phone was at about mile 40 of my 50-mile cruise.

I'm getting my limbs and lungs ready for a 50-mile mountain bike race in the Black Hills (Spearfish, SD) with 2,500 feet of climb included.  Now, if I could just find some 2,500 foot hills in Illinois!

The Dakota 5-O is the event -- Labor Day weekend.

It's not a bug -- it's a feature.  --commonly said about software bugs.  :)

Traffic was heavy on IL Route 64 this morning. I typically see only this many cars during my entire 43.8 mile commute. Of course, farm equipment was involved, as we're truly rural Illinois. Ahead of the truck with the grain trailer (and just over the hill) was another long line of cars behind a slow-moving tower section of a large windmill (on a trailer, of course).

This list of reasons for admission to a lunatic asylum in the 1800s. It's like a list of potential metal band names.

50 miles today -- not on the road.  The singletracks were either muddy or blocked by lots and lots of trees and branches from the storms last week, so I stayed on the boring, plain bike trail (crushed limestone, grass, some parts kind of paved).

I saw lots of wildlife:  orioles, cardinals, goldfinches, 4 woodchucks (including a momma and her baby), 2 muskrats, lots of bunnies and a fox (the fox said nothing, by the way).

This was my first time going well over 30 miles -- I planned to do 40 but decided to go a bit further since I didn't wear myself out on the dirt mud singletracks.

Yay!  The weather was very nice and I got to spend some time on the bike again!  The trail between home and Dixon was fairly dry but the singletracks were still muddy, so I stuck to the regular trail.

Such wonderful weather!
