Perhaps some of the most compelling argument in favor of direct selling comes from Ackman's failure to make a compelling case yesterday. A couple of great quotes about direct selling...

Steve Forbes:  "Certain kinds of businesses, most people don't succeed in terms of sales. Sales is a very hard thing to do, and 9 out of 10 of us aren't very good at it, don't have the stamina for it, and Herbalife's an example of it, but that does not mean that it's a fraud."

Kevin Thompson:  "One point that needs to be made is that the attrition rate often times gets quoted about Herbalife, that people join and they quit. You've got two things working against Herbalife: number one, weight loss programs in general...Jenny Craig I think has a 93% attrition rate. So that's sort of natural with their product category. Number two, just start-up companies in general have a high failure rate. So what Herbalife does is they try to have all these consumer protections in place to protect people if they change their mind and want to sell back inventory [as most direct selling companies now do]."

#Nature is truly awesome. We throw that word around lightly, but in this case, it's actually appropriate.

+Art Jonak makes his case for #directselling  instead of #networkmarketing  or #multilevelmarketing .  I'll add that "direct selling" also helps put the focus on customers buying product, not on recruiting. Great products that meet a real need -- that's the foundation of a great direct selling company.
