Baja 1000 contemplating - in connection with Husqvarna announcement to participate at Dakar. Since purchased by KTM they merged Husaberg and Husqvarna back together. (some Husqvarna employees did not wanted the "Swedish roots" to die and opened Husaberg while Husky got sold to a Italian owner some 20 or so years ago.
Now they back covering basically all major off-road events. Motocross GP, USA AMA and Supercross, Enduro, Hard Enduro and Dakar.
What are the chances to see them back at the Baja 1000???
In 1967, an idea for a desert race down the Baja Peninsula came together. Malcolm Smith and JN Roberts entered that first year, and against impossible odds rode a nearly stock Husqvarna to victory in the first ever Baja 1000.
40 years later, Malcolm and JN team up again, leading the Racing For Life Team in the 2007 Baja 1000 aboard a monsterous Husqvarna TC510...and things rarely go as planned in the Baja 1000.
Malcolm Smith and JN Roberts have truly come Full Circle, a full four decades after the world's first Baja 1000 - will Husqvarna attempt the same???

Meet 'Debbie,' the off-road racing RV that conquered the Baja 1000 - Running a luxury Ford motor home in the Baja 1000 from Esenada to +La Paz Baja California Sur BCS  - Condor Coach wanted to do that and came up with the idea in September 1968 - all included: wood veneer, water heater, twin beds, stove, refrigerator, shower and toilet all stay intact.
Even the A/C and carpeting were to be left untouched … because press photos. See, this was a top-of-the-line luxury coach, complete with an eye-watering price tag (roughly $177,220 in today's money), and Condor wanted it to look the part.
The RV's chassis was eventually shortened to 20 feet, but given its elephantine curb weight, the stock Ford-sourced 390-cid V8 wasn't going to cut it and replaced with a 460 cubic inches of balanced and blueprinted Lincoln cast iron, dyno-rated at 400 hp. That channeled power into the Art Carr-shifted C6 trans, Napco front diff, and two-speed Eaton rear axle, with a monstrous 16-inch wheel and tire combo. Interesting piece of Baja history
Before Paris-Dakar, there was the Baja 1000. North Americas off-road racing crucible attracted purpose-built machines of the highest competitive caliber. And then there was a 400-hp rally-prepped recreational vehicle.

A little bit of Baja 1000 desert racing history thanks to the Baja Dude You-Tube user that put that 8mm filmed clip up.
From 1967 to 1972, the race was organized by the National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA) and grew in popularity with ABC's "Wide World of Sports" sending Jim McKay to cover the 1968 event, and attracting new participants like the late Mickey Thompson, Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones and movie actor James Garner.
In October 1973, the price for a barrel of crude oil shot up 70% overnight as the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) launched the Arab Oil Embargo. Fearful competitors would abandon the idea of competing and stay home, NORRA abandoned the race - despite assurances from the Federal government run Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) fuel prices would remain stable - and announced they would hold an event in the state of Arizona.
It was at that time in history, Baja California governor Milton Castellanos handed over sanctioning of the event to a non-profit Mexican corporation called the "Baja Sports Committee" (BSC). BSC renamed the event the "Baja Mil" (Baja 1000) and scheduled the race to run on the original dates chosen by NORRA. Though NORRA held a competing event in the United States that same weekend, BSC successfully ran the race from Ensenada to La Paz like the years prior. Unaware of the challenges, BSC found promoting Baja races more difficult than anticipated. Instead of giving up the race, the Mexican government requested help from Southern California Off-Road Enterprises (SCORE) in hosting and promoting future Baja races. Through negotiations with Mickey Thompson and his SCORE organization, the Government agreed to give exclusive rights to SCORE to hold Baja races and also reluctantly allowed SCORE to cancel the event for 1974 (a year where motorsport was curtailed in the United States because of the oil crisis). SCORE hired Sal Fish as president and took control of the Baja 1000 from that year on with the Baja 1000 race resuming under new control in 1975.
1975 #Baja1000 Ensenada-Ensenada car class was won by Malcolm Smith and Dr. Bud Feldkamp, Hi-Jumper VW in 18:55:49 while Al Baker and Gene Cannady on a Honda won the motorcycle class (and overall) in 18:22:55

Mango Racing #Baja1000 - Gary Magness, Trophy Truck No. 45 finished 9th in class. Magness shared driving duties with Devin Housh — Co-pilot Austin F: We came around a turn and B.J. Baldwin’s truck was stuck in the silt and we stopped a little late and got stuck there. Luckily our chase crew was nearby so we were only there 15 minutes and they yanked us out. We were just in cruise mode and wanted to get to the finish

#Tecate   SCORE 2014 Baja 1000  passing Valley de La Trinidad at race-mile 120 Trophy Trucks and Class 1 on a dirt road. First ones somewhat slow, guy taking the video was right past a corner and I assume there was a speed limit also, later he moved further up the road and you can hear the pedal to the metal

BMW Motorrad, to promote the launch of the new R 1200 Baja Scrambler, a model which derives from the R nineT, intends to entrust to the major North American distributors some rather special specimens.
This whole "report" is based on a posting in the italian medmotomagazine an online magazine that describes itself "_free and independent_"  not tied, in any way, to any manufacturers or commercial company.
They also state that "The author is not responsible for the information published by the readers..."
We would not be surprised if this is a post by a "reader".....
The image in the post appearing to be by Oberdan Bezzi found at obiboi.deviantart.com which does not state any relation to BMW
There are no references to a BMW R 1200 Baja Scrambler at the BMW Motorrad website to find. http://www.bmw-motorrad.com/com/en/index.html

After 115 persons killed and violence going on since fall 2014 it would be highly ignorant to speak of "normality" at the finish-line city of many Baja 1000's. Shot-out and hand-grenades at the Malecon (bord-walk). Gimmi a break - that is NOT normal
  >>> Report on water-front La Paz shootings  http://mcaf.ee/f79sb

Another shot-out in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. A city that spends tins of money to attract tourism. Maybe they should invest in their police-force first....
With that shooting the number of people killed in execution style shootings or narco related crimes since fall of 2014 went up to 115!
Additional at this occasion a local TV reporter, Adolfo Lucero Murillo, died. According to news report did he suffer a heart-attack

Off-Road Baja 1000 Desert Racing Baja California Peninsula Mexico #2014B1K
Introduction
The Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 is without a doubt a emblematic and important event in Off-Road Motorsports in North America. It has a 44 year history and it's tradition has made Baja California a destination for off-road desert racers and the original finish-line city La Paz, Baja California Sur the off-road capital of the world. Every year this race along with the SCORE San Felipe 250 and the SCORE Baja 500 gathers hundreds of racers from all over the world as well as thousands of spectators that see the race at incredible locations in the states of Baja California and Baja California Sur (if there is a peninsula run race as 2012 again to La Paz)
