Survey of rainforming bacteria
Well, not precisely „rainforming bacteria“, but bacteria suspected to be involved in rain formation. A number of atmospheric bacteria is able to initiate ice formation at relatively low temperatures – a first step in the formation of rain. The involvement of such bacteria in actual rain events is not proven but pretty likely. A large scale analysis of such bacteria from rainwater has now detected a large number of known and some unknown strains including an novel mechanisms of initiating ice formation.
