Scala IDE uses a subset of sbt (called zinc) in the Scala builder. It does the computation for the incremental builds, and drives the Scala compiler.
A fair amount of work has been done on the sbt incremental compiler in 0.13.0, 0.13.1 and the upcoming 0.13.2, to avoid unnecessary recompilation with faster algorithm (-> reduced build time). By keeping up with the versions of sbt, we can improve the overall user experience.
