This story began on April 4th 2013 - Ingress Report EP2 had just been released naming London as the most contested city in the world. We’d already done the big fields (https://plus.google.com/102161590687970928094/posts/T722vatAd9K) and L8 portal farms are a relatively common occurence. What was left?
An idea forms
Inspired by London’s position as the most competitive city in the world for Ingress, Agent DevAlien pitched a crazy idea to turn all of London green. Some thought that we were mad - attempting the impossible, but we knew that as long as we were realistic with our goals it would definitely be achievable.
Momentum is gathered
The London Underground is a hallmark of the city and the Circle line, one of the oldest underground lines in the world, formed a convenient loop which we decided to use as the borders of London.
In order to increase our chances of success, the operation was carried out overnight. This posed some problems as certain areas are gated and off-limits at night so we divided agents into two groups: Day Ops and Night Ops. Day Ops were tasked with clearing out areas which would be inaccessible at night and maintaining those portals until closing time.
Night Ops agents were divided into six Zones which would cover the entirety of the Circle line:
- Park Zone : Encompasses Hyde Park and adjacent areas.
- Shop Zone: Contains Oxford Street and Regent Street, London’s prime shopping location.
- Uni Zone: Major features here are the University College London campus and King’s Cross.
- Royal Zone: Includes Buckingham Palace, residence of Her Majesty, the Queen.
- Gov Zone: Popular sites such as Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
- City Zone: Home of the such wonderful sights as the Gherkin and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The day arrives
Day Ops began at 5pm and mostly went off without a hitch. Multiple sites reported closing green. Around 8.30pm, agent DevAlien informed us of distressing developments: the Victoria and Albert Museum and Natural History Museum had closed and were still blue. No problem, he could just nuke them down and leave them unclaimed. This was not to be as Resistance agent “Zombifier” started claiming portals inside the locked museums, bouncing between both sites just seconds after DevAlien cleared them. This farce was repeated again at the Albert Memorial minutes later as DevAlien attempted to neutralize portals from outside the gates of the now locked Hyde Park.
Night Ops gathered in the pub at 9pm and after a short briefing and some revelry, the operation began in earnest at midnight. Park Zone was completely green bar a few inaccessible portals within Hyde Park so agents were split into five teams to clear the five remaining zones. Portals fell quickly due to fantastic guidance from our Eyes in the Sky and all was smooth sailing until 1am when Resistance agent trunll ventured out to clear some L7 portals which we may just have put up on a whim. Several agents who had finished their Zones early were quickly routed to patch up trunll’s damage and so began a merry dance which lasted until 4.15am when Rolling Thunder was declared a resounding success. We had achieved 100% green coverage of accessible portals within London’s Circle line!
We did, of course, have to top off the night with a nice little L8 farm.
Some random trivia
- 29 days from conception to execution

A massive congrats and thank you to everyone involved. It really wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of:

State: Connected to SSID > Mobile data off >Auto-sync on >Wait 5 Sec. >Send WoL to PC.
The problem I'm having is that sometimes Wifi drops and reconnects, when that happens it sends WoL to my PC and turns it on even though I don't want it to.
How can I make the >Send WoL task do it only once when I'm home? but keep in mind that I want the WoL to be sent every time I leave and com back home.
I'm open to any suggestions, Thanks everyone.
