Feature Artist: Gale Fulton Ross - http://bit.ly/xYgL4I

My only challenge is what do I want to paint on what day. I paint because I am free to do so; not to become famous. I am grateful for this blessing; I have the ability to make marks that people want.

Sarasota has an art history, how about a future? http://bit.ly/xC4ePK

You might say our art history began in 1931, when art lover John Ringling, whose circus wintered in Sarasota, founded his museum, along with the School of Fine and Applied Arts of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art – known today as the Ringling School of Art and Design. Staffed by 15 faculty members, the school attracted landscape and marine painters from the North.

But even before Ringling’s school began to draw World War II veterans intent on studying art under the G.I. Bill of Rights, the Farnsworth School of Art opened in Sarasota in 1941, attracting students from the United States and Canada and from as far away as the Dutch East Indies.

Interview with glass artist, Richard Jolley - http://bit.ly/wU2TSy

Richard Jolley has produced a remarkable body of sculpture that explores the human figure, its timeless beauty, and expressive potential. The artist’s work falls into distinct series, each serving as a stage in his evolution toward increasingly evocative and technically challenging forms. Jolley’s work is both symbolic and visual. He brings a new and innovative treatment to glass sculpture unlike anything that others have done.

Florida's West Coast Resource for Visual Art.
Introduction
Florida’s West Coast Resource for Visual Art

There are many reasons why our year round residents reside here and why tourists decide to visit every year. One of them is culture, particularly visual art. Southwest Florida offers a broad spectrum of visual art to stimulate the mind and soul. We believe providing the content with the accessibility, and visibility, enthusiasts will attend and visit our galleries, museums, and programs.

Sarasota Visual Art is the premier online destination providing in-depth detailed coverage of the visual arts for the West Coast of Florida. We are comprised of Ringling College of Art & Design graduates and art professionals. Utilizing the area’s resources, and creating our own, we have quickly become the resource for Sarasota’s visual art community. We see the importance of being an artist here just as being an artist anywhere else in the world. Embracing one another and presenting our works locally enhances our community and our connections to each other.
