Making decisions isn't easy. It's even more difficult when there are competing parties who all need your support and advocacy. #leadership #responsibility #consulting
Whether you are developing a service line, managing a multi-million dollar project, organizing a household or fostering a new company, if you are the person sitting in the chair everyone turns to when there are questions, concerns or needs - congratulations - you are the captain of that ship.

Just because complicated work can be distilled down into simple topics doesn't mean it is easy to address them. This post talks about how information, timing and people are key to almost any endeavor.
No matter the industry, the project, or the role, every aspect of our lives is ruled by the pursuit of the right information, at the right time, to the right people. A software development project manager assigns tasks, budge...

If JJ Watt isn't the NFL MVP, I don't know what this world is coming to. The Texans were ranked 16 in the NFL for total defense. He has taken a defense, that would probably ranked in the bottom 5 without him and is the only relevant piece on the Texans. He had 20.5 sacks and an interception WITHOUT Jadeveon Clowney. He was double and triple and even quadruple teamed on many occasions. His touchdown catch vs the Browns was not Odell Beckham-esque, but it was still a great catch! He had five touchdowns, which is two more than Andre Johnson, one of the best receivers in the history of the NFL. Take him off the Texans, I don't think they would be a Ravens win away from getting in the playoffs. If this award was most outstanding player, give it to Aaron Rodgers, but it is most VALUABLE player, so basically it is the award which means...take this player of his team and how well would they do. Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the NFL. I am a Vikings fan so it's not like I'm a JJ Watt fanatic or a Texans homer, but Rodgers was hurt for 1/2 the season and the Packers still went to the playoffs. JJ Watt was hurt most of last year and the Texans were the worst team in the NFL. With the Texans having what should be backup quarterbacks starting in games, JJ Watt and the defense had to keep the Texans in games. The Packers were ranked 8 in the NFL for passing. They were behind Mark Sanchez and the Eagles. Let's not forget Mark Sanchez was the guy who ran into his offensive lineman's butt and fumbled the ball. On the Texans, it's JJ Watt and who else...Johnathan Joseph? Kareem Jackson? Brian Cushing? Aaron Rodgers has Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb both of them had 1000+ receiving yards. Don't forget Jarrett Boykin and Davante Adams. Also, Aaron has Eddie Lacy, who had 1300 rushing yards this season. Rodgers has three other pro bowlers on offense. Watt has NONE. Just like Adrian Peterson in his MVP year, JJ Watt has been a one man show. Put Jay Cutler, Andy Dalton, Joe Flacco on the Packers, they would probably put up way better stats with those weapons. Not saying Aaron Rodgers is on the same level with those guys, but Rodgers definitely doesn't do it alone. Better stats? Aaron Rodgers. Most valuable? JJ Watt.

At whatever stage of life and business you find yourself, understanding why you are doing what you do can be much more important than what it is you are doing - our fledgling company is no different. #startup   #entrepreneur   #reason   #family

The Why of it All - understanding the underlying meaning for the work we do and the aspirations we hold. Why we do something is much more important than what we do.

This is a post from a little while ago that didn't make it into the Google Blog. Reposting it now.
It’s Monday, around 3:30 in the afternoon in the fourth week of starting our business. None of us are sleeping that well – we wake up from fake email dreams, fretting about finances, panicked about having work, and panicked a...

Almost every conversation about business woes comes back to #information   #timing   and #people  . #technology   is a wonderful tool, but it takes people to define the processes and make the technology work for them.

At the end of this year, its important for me to understand the underlying why for what I do in business and in life. #meaning #motivation #business #life
Even as a small child, nothing made sense to me if I did not understand the why underlying an observation, an event, or an experience. It did not matter that the ant carried a piece of leaf five times its size across the side...

Kyle Chambers at ACT Turbine discussing an creative solution to enable a VPShere server.
In March I migrated from SBS to Server 2012 running on 4 different hosts all running VMWare ESXi 5.5, but I never took the time to setup a server running VPShere (mostly because I ran out of the tiny budget I had of only $40k for the entire project). Well... its more than 6 months later and I'm in the same spot. No VMWare VPShere, and I've run into some issues with my NIC's, VM1000 that seem to have a known conflict with Server 2012. But I find m...

Jeff is wonderful in every way you would expect from a service. He will answer your questions and provide an honest assessment of what you do and do not need. He is timely and accommodating in making arrangements to visit and spray. We have lived in the area for several years now, and he is one of the only companies I have continued to use without incident or disappointment. I would recommend Jeff and Superior Pest to anyone seeking pest control services and in Houston you cannot afford to go without the protection.
