Can you jam with the console cowboys of cyberspace?
Enthusiasts of '90s web nostalgia say the real mission is bringing back simplicity and community, not dancing baby GIFs.

My Alma Mater made a top 10 list - for public universities with highest student debt default rate. Silver lining is it ranked pretty low on the list, but unfortunately, it's not that surprising it made it on there to begin with.
University students who take out loans are essentially betting that the education they're financing with debt will help them get a decent job—and that the job, in turn, will help them repay the loan. Defaulting on student loans, then, means something went terribly wrong. Alas, such a turn of events is far from uncommon. Last month, the...

Because I know so little about them, I've been hesitant to work with SVGs. This article (though long) does a great job breaking down the importance of the file type and how to best implement them in your work.

Irony is posting an article on privacy, identity and social media on publicly on G+. Still, it's an important read that raises a lot of issues people should be discussing.
When Facebook executives meet potential advertisers, their biggest selling point is that the company knows whom it's advertising to. In contrast to the wilds of the web, the proposition goes, Facebook users sign in to the service and make themselves known. Match their data with third parties—data brokers who provide loyalty card spending, for instance—and you have a fairly good...

I'd love to see what this Ello site is all about. They promise to protect user privacy, refusing to sell your data to marketers, and if it's true then it's pretty appealing to me. Send me an invite Ello!
Simple, beautiful & ad-free.

Help bring my husband's uncle home from Thailand!
While traveling overseas in Thailand, my Uncle became ill. He required an operation on his spine and is working hard to walk again. My family is talking with the Doctors in Bangkok who are working to stabilize him enough to take a medical flight back to the US. His insurance does not cover any...

If you're an out-of-work designer wondering why you haven't landed that perfect job yet, you may want to take a second look at your portfolio.
We designers love to experiment with different styles. It’s practically expected if we wish to stay ahead of the curve and wow our clients. However, this can result in a mishmash of different types of work in our portfolios, which can confuse clients and make it difficult to establish yourself ... Continue reading »

Boo, Mattel!

These dolls used to be amazing. Don't screw up a good thing with these dumb Make 'Em Up lines!
Since the company was bought by Mattel 15 years ago, the dolls and their stories have shied away from the controversial subjects that once made them distinctive.

Google (and some trolls) managed to destroy one of the most beautiful supercuts I've ever watched. I really wish there were more options for uploading/watching videos because this is pretty upsetting.

Terrible place! Went in with a party of 8 when it was practically empty. Took over 2 hours to get our food. We ordered 2 appetizers and only 1 showed up after a long time of waiting. The food was terrible and our waitress was nonexistent for the most part. Also, we were offered a "special" but because it wasn't listed in the menu, we were charged a "comparable" price at $5 more for the NY strip. Disappointed.

Noisiest hotel I've ever stayed at. There seems to be an ambulance or police car passing ever half hour and you can hear the water in the pipes and noises from the elevator constantly. Service is generally good, but inconsistent - sometimes pillows would go missing from my room after housekeeping cleaned up. Oh, and speaking of the pillows, they're very thin. Loved the dining though and the view was great.
