Your narrative is always changing. Are you changing your stories to reflect your new reality? — New post on LinkedIn!
As I wander through cities, one of the things I look for is evidence of fresh construction. Cities are living, breathing, pulsating organisms, and a great indicator of change is the number of cranes

"Write about a culture that has forgotten. Write about how lonely people are. Write about what no one else is saying.” —

People are saying it's a must-read. Life-changing. Shiver inducing.

Much of the lives that people create for themselves are done behind the scenes, in homes and offices and in email inboxes that we never see. The way you're doing it doesn't have to be the way it is. You can create new ideas, stories, and even processes for getting things done.

For me, I loved spending Friday nights in, working on essays and dreaming up projects--it was an uninterrupted set of 4 or 5 hours that I could just work and dream, and get a head start on my weekend. In college, I used to try to get my work done on the Friday evening session so I could rest (and swim) all weekend and not have so much piled up on Sundays before the week began all over again.

How can you imagine or create a different world? It doesn't have to look like anything else. It doesn't have to be what you think it is.

Where are you?

Just a few weeks ago: I’m sitting on the floor of an empty studio, barefoot, with not a piece of furniture in it. Boxes line the hallways and two giant moving trucks are parked out in the street. Every so often our dogs bark, whining about being pent up in the back. We’re sleeping on the carpet floor for two nights without beds. I have an interview scheduled and I’ve hidden in the bathroom to talk from my laptop to make this happen. Right now, we’re in limbo.

I ask if we can not skype — video is probably not the best medium at the moment, although I’m happy to talk — and our interview accidentally goes to video. I laugh, and I tell my story: “I’m sitting on a floor right now, chatting at you while all the furniture is being taken out of my house … mind if we switch to audio only? Otherwise you’ll have me sitting on a floor in my yoga pants!”

Let’s stop imaginging the pretend perfect circumstances that might have maybe led to the possibility of your wildest dreams, and get real about the fact they haven’t happened yet. You are here. You are what you are.

Start where you are. Right here. Right now.

The world is not transactional. Love and light are expansive. Giving isn’t part of a zero-sum game. When you give, you don’t lose — you get something else in return, and the world keeps moving.
Even the charity: water staff who’ve never met Sarah Peck know her name. She's famous in our office. Not for the number of campaigns that she's run or eve

Loved this post, Sarah! It's funny how hard we make it for ourselves to just... ask :). I'll keep this mind when I go for my next round of funding :D
