2016: Year In Review
I had planned to start this blog post with a short blurb about how this is something I do every single year.  But, I just went back to read last year's "year in review" post, and I apparently didn't write it.  Oops...  I guess this is something I do *almost...

Inequality Card Sorts
Today, is my students' first day back from break.  Yesterday, we had a professional day which was mostly a "work in your room" day.  I took this time as an opportunity to create a couple of new card sorts for my Algebra 1 class. Before break, we were focuse...

Love this! I wish my math classes had more interactive lessons like yours. We had Cuisenaire rods in elementary school, which were great both for "real" math and for building pyramids, but I think "math you can play with" is helpful and important at any level. I don't know how students learned calculus or Fourier transforms before computer simulations!

Glad to see they're still available ... and the colors are still the same, 40 years later!

Quarter the Cross
If you haven't tried "Quarter the Cross" yet with your students, what are you waiting for???  Not sure what "Quarter the Cross" is?  You must stop immediately and read David Butler's blog post about it!  David has created a hundred solutions to this puzzle ...

Books of 2016
I started this blog post a few days ago, but I got distracted.  Reading Meg Craig's Year in Books 2016 post was inspiration to finish this.  I didn't read as much as I would have liked this year.  To be honest, the first half of this year consisted of very ...

2016's Most Popular Posts
This blog post will be my 183rd of 2016.  That's a decrease in posting from my 199 posts in 2015 and my 214 posts in 2014.  I guess that's what happens when you decide to get married and finish grad school all in the same year.  Yesterday, I read Jo Morgan'...

Ways I'm Staying More Organized This Year
Every school year, I tell myself that "This is the year I'm going to finally get organized."  And, then I fail and find myself saying the exact same thing again the next year.  I'm not sure what's different about this year, but I'm finally feeling semi-orga...

Verruca Value
So, what's your verruca value?  Have no clue what that is?  Don't worry.  I didn't know what it meant until the other day, either. First, I have to give a huge shout-out to Julie Morgan for introducing me to the Transum website .  (Check out her awesome blo...
