Super excited to announce our efforts to improve discovery of great content by adding a social layer to the Google Play Store. Check out the "recommended from you" section on the home screen and click on a friend's profile photo to see a list of all the Google Play items they've +1ed and reviewed. Let us know what you think.

Discover content you’ll love, from people you care about

Have you ever asked a friend for a recommendation for a movie to rent or new book to read? We’re rolling out a new version of the Google Play Store app which makes it easier for you to find and share recommendations with your friends and family. If you have a Google+ profile:

-You now have an activity page in the Google Play Store app, where you can see all the Google Play content you’ve reviewed, rated and +1’d. To access this page, just tap your profile picture in the left-hand navigation menu.

-You’ll also start seeing more recommendations from your friends and family, and you can tap on their profile pictures to see the Google Play items they’ve +1’d or reviewed.

This update is rolling out over the next few days, so check back soon if you don't see these new features yet.

I had the privilege of attending and speaking at the Harvard Business School's Dynamic Women in Business Conference this past weekend. It was amazing to see hundreds of talented and inspirational women come together to discuss leadership and share best practices.

I spoke on the Social Media panel moderated by Professor Julie Battilana along with +Amanda Pouchot, +Laurie Ruettimann, +mallory blair and +Bianca Caampued. It was a really fun discussion that culminated in each of us articulating our definition of success. I believe that my most precious resource is time, therefore success to me is being happy with how I spend my time.

My suggestion to those of you trying to come up with your own definition of success is:
(1) Make it personal -- Your definition of success should be based on what matters most to you. Use other people's definitions to pressure-test your own, but I think you'll be most happy if you create and live your own definition.
(2) Make it measurable -- If you can't measure your definition, it's impossible to know if you are achieving your goals. Pick some criteria that help you to determine if you're on the right track.
(3) Make it flexible -- The criteria you use to evaluate your success will change over time. Thus, make your definition and criteria for evaluating it flexible. It's OK to add new criteria and get rid of old ones as that's proof you're learning and growing.
(4) Don't make it too long term -- Lots of people come up a with a vision of success that's 50 years away. I think that's too far in the future. Why wait until you're 80 to know if you've had a successful life? Plus, how do you course-correct if you only evaluate your success 50 years from now? Shorter term milestones are a great way to make sure you're on track to your longer term goals.

Hope this was helpful… and I would love to hear your own definitions of success.

One of my best friends has a daughter that just turned 2. To celebrate, I gave her an art easel hoping to inspire her creative side. Together we painted up a storm, and her happy smile reminded me how much I used to love to draw. So this weekend I went to the art store where I was seduced by possibilities. Purchases complete, I headed to a coffee shop where I opened a brand new sketch pad. Not entirely sure why I started sketching frogs... maybe it was my subconscious telling me to take a leap of faith and try drawing again ;-)

Check out this improvement to G+ profiles!

Quick update to the Google+ Cover Photo

Now when someone visits your Google+ profile or page on the desktop, they’ll see your entire cover photo across the top (vs. just a small section). And importantly: there’s still lots of room for your content underneath.

Cover photos remain 16x9 (up to 2120px by 1192px), so no action is required to enjoy the new experience. The update is rolling out today, so give it a look, and let us know what you think.

P.S: The image behind your profile name is actually a “blurred” version of your cover photo. Check out the examples attached, then explore the possibilities!

Some profile & page improvements, per your request

We spend lots of time listening to your feedback, and today we're launching some profile and page updates that you've been asking for. These include:

- A new tab for your Local reviews. In addition to your photos, +1's and YouTube videos, there's now a place for all your Local reviews. Highlight your favorite restaurants, or hide the tab completely via settings -- it's completely up to you.

- An easier way to edit your info. The 'About' tab now consists of separate cards (like Story, Places, and Links) -- each with its own prominent edit link. As always: you can share specific fields with specific circles, or keep them just for you.

- Bigger cover photos, with a better aspect ratio. Cover photos are much larger than before (up to 2120px by 1192px), and they display in 16x9 when fully expanded. This way more images can be used as cover photos, and there’s more room for your selection to shine.

Everything's rolling out gradually, so check back soon if you don't see it yet. Once it’s live (at plus.google.com/me), let us know your thoughts in the comments!

I recently had the opportunity to attend Stanford d.school's bootcamp on design thinking. I had the most amazing experience and love meeting people similarly excited about cultivating innovation in their respective industries/companies. Thanks +Jeremy Utley, +George Kembel and others. I saw American Idiot this weekend at the SHN Orpheum Theater in SF. It was amazing... and it took a lot of willpower not to start singing along ;) If you have the chance to see it you should (plays through July 8)
Direct from Broadway, the smash-hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for true meaning in ...

Introduction
The adjective that best describes me is curious. I love experiencing new things, traveling to new places, asking questions and meeting new people.

Things I love: fly fishing, baking, alternative music, books that are inches thick, afternoon naps, lattes, my family, fairy tales, and building great consumer products.
Bragging rights
Saw Mt. Everest from a plane that was duck-taped together; Hold the family record for the smallest fish ever caught; Attempting to publish a children's picture book.
Education
  • Harvard University
    1999 - 2003
I was one of ~20 students granted a special concentration. This means I got to choose my own curriculum, take classes across the university and design classes when one of the subject I wanted to study didn't exist. I chose to study economic development and international health. It was the most amazing experience.

This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time!!! There so many fantastic options on the menu so I encourage you to eat a small lunch ;-) The tuna tartar and new style beef carpaccio are amazing. If you manage to still have room for dessert, try the sour cherry amaretto ice cream!!!
