"Watching you code is as interesting as watching AB De Villers bat" Unexpected complement today (tho' I am more a Hashim Amla fan) :)

[Inverted Tree © 2006, John Opsopaus] Man, interviews in the Valley have truly gotten fucking awful .There is no other ritual that is as thoroughly dehumanizing, utterly useless, tediously...

OMG Scary. In other interesting ideas, we no longer need to worry about #RSI  and can make someone type for us ;)

I won't be surprised if MSFT decides to fire their Kernel teams and abandon the Windows kernel efforts and start selling Exchange server, MS Office on top of Linux in the long run.

For all their SAAS offerings they are already using Linux on the datacenter is what I remember from the Skype and Bing related news.

Thanks to news like Visual studio for Linux, .NET for Linux,  the top five out of six posts now in reddit programming are about Linux and MSFT.

A feature request for Chrome
Dear +Google Chrome Could we please get the ability to set the spell checker language per site? You might not know it, but a biiiiiiig part of your users actually uses multiple languages on the web - but mostly always the same one per site. At the moment this results in us having to change the spell checker language manually multiple times a day - which is highly annoying (or bare with that red line craziness). So: Pretty, please?

"You may really struggle with female developers here. They're more likely to have substantial family responsibilities (and thus can't do as much out of work). They also might not want to subject themselves to public scrutiny here."

What !?

The "Google-style" interviews is the one people love to hate. It's broken, good candidates fail, bad candidates just memorize the answers, yadda yadda yadda. That's all true. But this is also true: all processes are broken.

Read the comments. I believe that a lot of programmers (who are otherwise fans of google) are no fans of their interview processes.

If you want to privatize something and destroy it, a standard method is first to defund it, so it doesn’t work anymore, people get upset and accept privatization. This is happening in the schools. They are defunded, so they don’t work well.
