Many thanks to Anurag, Alex, and others who provide us with Google Scholar.

Here's a look at Anurag Acharya and Google Scholar on the service's tenth anniversary.  Anurag just can't quit it.

Scholar is a wonderful thing and I'm very glad it exists. My only complaint is that the way it does venue impact rankings is not very useful. H-index for a venue is mostly just a measure of how big the venue is, not what its quality is. Much better would be to measure the median number of citations to papers published at the venue.

Nice...had seen Ben Gomes speak in an interview being conducated by Danny Sullivan of the three musketeers Amit Singhal, Matt Cutts and Ben Gomes.....the part that I loved and still remember clearly was where Amit describes Ben calling him up on Phone to talk about a PDF search problem(as Amit had a PhD in that area) while Amit is handling his kids in the car....

cuteoverload.com should start making some business deals.

From the abstract:
Performance indexed by the number of successful trials increased after viewing cute images (puppies and kittens; M ± SE = 43.9±10.3% improvement) more than after viewing images that were less cute (dogs and cats; 11.9±5.5% improvement).

Yes, it's her.  Wikipedia has a good summary about her blog.

The stolen syrup was a small portion (8M lb or 15%) of the national strategic syrup reserve. The currently recovered syrup was a small portion (7%) of the stolen one.

Not a very sappy ending so far. Conspiracy theories and puns abound.

Fun blog from a primary school student in Scotland about her daily lunches, each one tagged with "Food-o-meter", Mouthfuls, Courses, Health Rating, Price, and Pieces of hair (usually zero fortunately).
I decided to try something new today and I chose the vegetable spring rolls from the menu. They came with sticky rice which was amazing because it stuck to itself but not to my fork. My soup today mus...

I am a big Alton Brown fan.  His answers to reddit questions below are highly entertaining.
Let's see, I host shows on Food Network and am preparing my first stage show to go on tour later this year. I'm working on a CD of weird food songs a...

When he visited Google, somebody asked him if he really did make (and eat) cheese from human milk- and he didn't deny it.

Reading (but not understanding) Korean. There's probably a Simon and Garfunkel song about that.

I learned to read Korean for a short trip I had there several years ago. It took a couple of hours. I couldn't pronounce anything properly (the sounds are really subtly different from English), but I could totally turn Korean words into the romanized versions in the guidebook, and thus decipher things like menus. Totally forgotten it now. And yes, I could understand absolutely nothing (er, except for a few menu items).
