Construction of 'The World' began in 2003 and yet, when I shot this series in 2014, only 2 islands had been completed.

I managed to capture one of the resorts in this series, an eerily deserted island escape.

The final image in the series seems to speak volumes as the luxury yacht can be seen leaving the archipelago, much like many of the investors who left after the Global Financial Crisis.

....and here's the original. This shot reminds me of the classic 3 flying ducks that used to hang on British walls in the 60's and 70's.

Happy to be awarded a Silver Award for 'The 3 Flamingoes' - Science & Nature is not usually a category I'd be entering but this one seemed to fit.

New blog post: Art Vs Appropriation - Photographers who use Instragram (and indeed any Social Media) as part of their marketing plan need to be aware of this. Pandora's box has been opened...if you can steal a pro photographers work from Instagram with no consequence, what's to stop the work being 'appropriated' from anywhere...and what does this mean if you class yourself as a 'fine art' photographer if someone else is making the money off your images because their name is known in the 'art world' and yours isn't?

Thanks for the invitation CF, would love to join!
This shot is called 'Windows' and was taken in La Paz, Bolivia. So many windows...so many without glass...this shot is also a window into the world of the local people and the way they live. I could stare at this one for hours...looks great big!

West Australian Photographer: Wanderer. Dreamer. Lover of life.
Introduction
West Australian Professional Photographer with a passion for travel, design and photography. Wanderer. Dreamer. Lover of life.

Sandy Herd is an award winning West Australian Photographer with a passion for travel, design and photography.

She studied photography at Curtin University in the 90's, completing a Bachelor of Arts with honours in Design and Photography. Sandy carries this design element through to her images, communicating a sense of place through simple and sometimes abstract compositions.

From 2000 -2002 Sandy moved to London and worked at the News International Newspaper Group where she developed a love of shooting live music. Her extensive portfolio comprises many famous international artists including Coldplay, Muse, Kasabian, The Prodigy, Ramstein and of course, many famous Aussie acts such as Powderfinger, Nick Cave, Empire of the Sun, Temper Trap and Paul Kelly.

After shooting and writing travel features for national lifestyle magazines, and being motivated by her love of travel, Sandy launched her own on-line magazine in 2010, entitled Self Indulged. The magazine was written and produced from 'the road' during a recent 18 month photographic adventure through China, Mongolia, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and South America. Sponsorship, in the form of advertising within the magazine, helped to fund the travel extravaganza.

Sandy's work has been published within Australia and internationally and her work is held in private collections in Australia, Malaysia, Europe and the United States. She has an international clientele and is available for corporate and commercial photographic commissions around the world.

"But this is one corner of one country, in one continent, on one planet that's a corner of a galaxy, that's a corner of a universe that is forever growing and shrinking and creating and destroying, and never remaining the same for a single millisecond.

And there is so much, so much to see."- The Doctor
