"The dusty field of library music—background tracks owned by labels and lent out to TV, radio, and film projects—has proven to be an endless sample source for hip-hop producers as well as inspiration for avant-garde experimentalists."
Sampleface is a blog showcasing the best sample-based music around, underground and mainstream, old and new, as well as classic albums of all genres, news, reviews and everything in between. We also run a label hoping to extend our sample-based ethos. Don't be fooled, sampling is not lazy, when used correctly. Embrace the sampleface!
We started out in September 2012 and in the past year and a half, the site has gone from strength to strength. There are plenty of music blogs out there, sure, but we wanted to look at it from a different angle. Sampling is a major part of hip hop history before copyright law turned it into a money making exercise. We wanted to share our love of sampling with others and use it as a foundation for music related news and reviews. We've been fortunate enough to have some great people jump on the project to help write and we're very grateful for their input.
